Job description

The UI Designer defines and delivers intuitive, visually compelling user experiences for an implantable medical device platform and its connected-care ecosystem. This role combines strong visual design skills with user-centered product design. They translate clinical workflows and user needs into elegant interfaces, rapid prototypes, and validated experiences across multiple concurrent products while preserving a consistent product-family experience.

General Responsibilities

  • Own the strategic evolution of LivaNova's multi-brand Design System, driving continuous improvements to components, tokens, and documentation, ensuring the system scales to meet the needs of multiple concurrent products and cross-functional teams across the organization.
  • Resolve complex, cross-functional design issues spanning multiple products, teams, and technical constraints, serving as the senior escalation point for high-complexity UI problems.
  • Define and scale UI operations establishing team best practices, design processes, and workflows that elevate UI maturity across the organization and ensure consistent, repeatable delivery, and alignment at scale.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, engineering, human factors, regulatory, legal, security, and marketing to align on safety, usability, and go-to-market needs.
  • Elevate UI best practices and methodologies by defining, documenting, and sharing standardized design processes, templates, and governance to ensure consistent, repeatable delivery.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Define information architecture: establish navigation, content hierarchy, and data flows for device and companion applications.
  • Produce high-fidelity UI designs: deliver pixel-perfect screens, visual assets, and motion cues that reflect brand and clinical needs.
  • Build interactive prototypes: create clickable prototypes for concept validation, stakeholder reviews, and engineering alignment.
  • Deliver production-ready specs: provide annotated designs, component specs, and developer handoff artifacts (tokens, assets, logic rules/states, and guidelines).
  • Maintain and evolve the design system: create reusable components, documentation, and versioning to ensure portfolio consistency.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience as a Product UI Designer with at least 3 recent years of experience within the medical device industry
  • Strong verbal and written communication and proven cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Highly motivated self-starter who proactively drives outcomes, negotiates trade-offs, and works independently when needed
  • Excellent teamwork, partnering, and negotiation abilities to align stakeholders and move projects forward
  • Experience applying mobile and web interface standards such as Android Material Design and Apple Human Interface Guidelines
  • Fluent with Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, or equivalent design, prototyping, and research tools
  • Design systems experience: creating, maintaining, and scaling component libraries and documented patterns for multi-product consistency

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Digital Design, Visual Communications, or a related field.
  • Candidates who come from a different educational focus can still be considered assuming they have the requisite experience and relevant certifications or coursework.
