Job description
Position Summary The Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) provides medically necessary rehabilitative and behavioral health services to members receiving Home and Community-Based Services through Footprints Collaborative. Services are delivered under the clinical supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or other qualified clinician in accordance with MaineCare Section 28 requirements and organizational policies.The BHP implements individualized interventions outlined in each member's Individual Treatment Plan (ITP), which is developed from the comprehensive assessment. Services utilize evidence-based behavioral interventions, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles when clinically appropriate, to increase independence, develop functional skills, reduce barriers to participation, and improve quality of life.The BHP is responsible for delivering high-quality direct services, collecting accurate behavioral and treatment data, maintaining compliant documentation, communicating with supervisors, and participating in ongoing clinical supervision and professional development., Direct Clinical Services
- Deliver individualized home and community-based behavioral health services in accordance with each member's Individual Treatment Plan (ITP).
- Implement treatment goals, behavior support strategies, and skill acquisition programs as directed by the supervising clinician.
- Teach and reinforce socially significant skills, including:
- Communication
- Social interaction
- Emotional regulation
- Adaptive living skills
- Self-help and daily living skills
- Community participation
- Safety skills
- Implement behavior reduction procedures and replacement skill instruction as clinically indicated.
- Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies, including prompting, reinforcement, shaping, modeling, task analysis, chaining, and prompt fading.
- Support generalization and maintenance of learned skills across natural environments.
- Safely transport members when authorized and clinically appropriate to support treatment goals and community integration.
Treatment Implementation
- Implement interventions developed from the member's comprehensive assessment.
- Assist with the implementation of Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) recommendations when applicable.
- Monitor member progress throughout each session.
- Immediately communicate significant behavioral changes, safety concerns, or barriers to treatment to the supervising BCBA or Clinical Supervisor.
- Participate in treatment modifications as directed by the clinical team.
Documentation and Data Collection
- Collect objective and accurate behavioral data during every service session.
- Complete all required documentation before established organizational deadlines.
- Submit timely, accurate, and compliant progress notes that:
- Reflect services actually provided
- Describe interventions utilized
- Document the member's response to treatment
- Demonstrate progress toward treatment goals
- Support ongoing medical necessity
- Maintain documentation in accordance with MaineCare regulations, licensing requirements, HIPAA, and Footprints Collaborative policies.
Collaboration and Family Support
- Develop and maintain professional therapeutic relationships with members and caregivers.
- Communicate professionally with families regarding scheduling, treatment implementation, and clinical concerns while remaining within role expectations.
- Model intervention strategies for caregivers when directed by the supervising clinician.
- Collaborate with BCBAs and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Participate in required staff meetings, training, and clinical consultations.
Clinical Supervision Requirements
Behavioral Health Professionals receive ongoing clinical supervision in accordance with MaineCare regulations and Footprints Collaborative policy. Supervision includes, but is not limited to:
- Direct observation of service delivery
- Clinical feedback and coaching
- Review of treatment implementation
- Documentation review
- Professional skill development
- Competency-based training
- Performance feedback
BHPs are required to:
- Attend all scheduled supervision sessions.
- Participate actively in competency-based training and performance feedback.
- Demonstrate implementation of clinical recommendations.
- Complete assigned follow-up activities resulting from supervision.
- Maintain supervision requirements established by MaineCare and Footprints Collaborative.
Failure to participate in required supervision may affect eligibility to continue providing direct services.
Attendance and Reliability Expectations
Because members rely on consistent medically necessary services, dependable attendance is an essential function of this position. Behavioral Health Professionals are expected to:
- Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Arrive prepared and on time for every scheduled session.
- Notify both their supervisor and the member's family as soon as possible when illness or an emergency prevents attendance, in accordance with Footprints Collaborative call-out procedures.
- Submit required documentation for absences when requested.
- Communicate anticipated scheduling conflicts as early as possible.
- Avoid excessive cancellations or last-minute call-outs that disrupt continuity of care.
Repeated tardiness, unexcused absences, failure to follow attendance procedures, or patterns of unreliable attendance may result in corrective action up to and including termination of employment.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct at all times.
- Follow all Footprints Collaborative policies and procedures.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, MaineCare regulations, and applicable licensing standards.
- Complete all required annual training and continuing education.
- Maintain required certifications and credentials.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
- Travel throughout assigned service areas.
- Maintain a safe therapeutic environment during all services.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Eligible for or currently certified as a Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) in accordance with Maine requirements.
- Ability to successfully complete required agency orientation and training.
Preferred
- Experience working with children or individuals with autism spectrum disorder, developmental disabilities, behavioral health needs, or intellectual disabilities.
- Coursework or experience in psychology, education, social work, behavioral science, or a related field.
- Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential or willingness to obtain certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to implement structured treatment plans with fidelity.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining communication with supervisors.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to accurately collect behavioral data and complete documentation.
- Basic computer proficiency for electronic documentation and communication.
- Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately during behavioral crises.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively through speaking, listening, and written communication.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and floor-level activities.
- Ability to actively engage with members throughout treatment sessions.
- Ability to lift, transfer, or assist up to 100 pounds when necessary, using approved safety procedures.
- Ability to safely implement approved crisis intervention procedures after required training.
- No light-duty positions are available for this role.
