Job description

Job description: Arrona Tech is seeking a motivated, mission-focused Mid-Level Java Software Engineer to support a secure software development team in the Hanover, MD / Fort Meade area. This is a full-time W2, onsite role supporting a high-impact defense and intelligence mission environment. An active TS/SCI with Polygraph is required at the time of application.

The Mid-Level Java Software Engineer will support complex software systems used for mission capability management, equipment control, data processing workflows, backend repositories, dashboards, and enterprise web applications. This role works directly with system engineers, hardware engineers, field engineers, mission stakeholders, and software developers to design, build, test, deploy, and maintain software that supports operational mission needs.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Java, JEE, Spring, JSP, Servlets, RESTful services, Apache Tomcat, Linux, Git/GitLab, test-driven development, and system-level documentation. The candidate should be comfortable supporting the software lifecycle, improving existing applications, developing new features, troubleshooting software issues, supporting releases, and helping improve software quality, documentation, and development processes.

This role is a strong fit for a cleared senior developer who wants to work on a small, high-impact mission software team where technical contributions are visible and directly tied to mission outcomes.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Analyze user requirements and derive software design and performance requirements.
  • Design, code, test, and maintain new and existing software applications.
  • Modify existing software to add new features, correct defects, adapt to new hardware, and improve performance.
  • Debug software issues and resolve software problem reports.
  • Integrate software into new or modified systems and operating environments.
  • Develop and maintain RESTful services and enterprise web applications.
  • Develop simple and complex database queries and data repository interfaces.
  • Support front-end dashboards, backend repositories, and full data-processing workflows.
  • Develop software solutions by analyzing system performance standards, conferring with users or system engineers, analyzing systems flow, data usage, and work processes, and investigating problem areas.
  • Develop or implement algorithms to meet system performance and functional standards.
  • Assist with developing and executing software test procedures.
  • Review software components for adherence to design requirements.
  • Document test results.
  • Write and review software documentation, system documentation, and Interface Control Documents.
  • Generate and maintain design specifications using UML-based tools.
  • Support software deployment, installation, and operational monitoring.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to documentation and software development standards.
  • Serve as a team lead when appropriate based on project needs and the development process being used.

Requirements

  • Must have an active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance with Polygraph at the time of application.
  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph is mandatory and not optional.
  • Candidates who do not currently hold an active TS/SCI with Polygraph cannot be considered for this position.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to federal contract requirements., * Active TS/SCI with Polygraph required at the time of application.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Seven or more years of software engineering experience on programs or contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Four additional years of software engineering experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
  • Seven or more years of relevant Java programming experience.
  • Two or more years of Java 1.7+ experience, including development of presentation tiers.
  • One or more years of experience using Spring.
  • Two or more years of JSP and Servlet programming experience.
  • Two or more years of JEE enterprise web application design and development experience.
  • One or more years designing and developing RESTful applications.
  • Ability to create and deploy applications in an Apache Tomcat web server.
  • Three or more years programming on Linux platforms.
  • Three or more years using revision control tools such as Git, GitLab, SVN, CVS, or ClearCase.
  • Two or more years of test-driven development experience.
  • Experience writing Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
  • One or more years of experience generating and documenting design specifications for system-level components.
  • One or more years of experience using UML-based tools such as Confluence, Gliffy, or similar tools.
  • Experience developing simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work onsite in Hanover, MD / Fort Meade area.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with virtualization technologies.
  • Familiarity with Perl, Oracle, MySQL, and/or PL/SQL.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript.
  • C++ development experience.
  • Scripting experience.
  • Digital Signal Processing experience.
  • Experience supporting enterprise monitoring or operational support environments.
  • Experience working in secure DoD or Intelligence Community mission environments.
