Job description

As a Senior Platform Software Engineer, you will be a key contributor to the development and success of our next-generation CDA platform, which leverages the power of generative AI, healthcare data intelligence, and cloud-native technologies. Your expertise in backend and data platform engineering will drive the creation of a robust, extensible, and intelligent system, enhancing the healthcare experience for patients and clinicians alike.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement the CDA data platform, ensuring it is scalable, secure, extensible, and optimized for AI-driven healthcare applications.

  • Collaborate closely with the CDA team, including AI researchers, software developers, and healthcare domain experts, to define and refine the platform's architecture.

  • Develop and maintain backend infrastructure, focusing on data ingestion, storage, processing, indexing, and retrieval systems.

  • Implement data modeling and database design for complex healthcare data structures, including FHIR resources, EHR integration patterns, HL7, and other clinical data models.

  • Integrate search technologies and natural language processing capabilities to enable conversational search, semantic search, summarization, and reliable retrieval over indexed healthcare data.

  • Build and optimize data pipelines using ETL/ELT processes and tools like Kafka, Flink, and RabbitMQ for efficient data flow.

  • Ensure data security and privacy by implementing access controls, encryption, auditability, data isolation, and compliance with healthcare regulations.

  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and technical excellence.

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in cloud-native AI/ML, healthcare interoperability, and data platform technologies, and propose innovative solutions to enhance the CDA platform.

Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related field is required, with a strong academic background.

  • 4+ years of relevant software development experience, with a focus on backend, platform, or data-centric applications.

  • Proficient in Java, Python, or similar object-oriented languages for building robust backend systems.

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including expertise in data structures, algorithms, RESTful services, distributed systems, and microservices architecture.

  • Hands-on experience designing and operating backend services, APIs, data pipelines, and data transformation workflows.

  • Hands-on experience with cloud-native development on major cloud platforms such as OCI, Azure, GCP, or AWS; familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, or similar infrastructure technologies; and experience with CI/CD, automated testing, integration testing, and regression testing.

  • Preferred experience working with healthcare data, FHIR resources, EHR integration patterns, HL7, clinical data pipelines, or similarly complex domain-specific data contracts.

  • Desired experience with technologies such as OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, Kafka, Redis, Object Storage, Flink, RabbitMQ, or similar distributed data platform technologies.

  • Strong production engineering instincts, including monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response, operational readiness, and preferred familiarity with multi-tenant systems, data isolation, authorization, access controls, and auditability.

  • Strong documentation habits, including onboarding guides, data specifications, runbooks, and examples, are preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated technical leadership, ownership of ambiguous problems, and a passion for mentoring junior team members.
