Job description
The Alteryx Platform Administrator is responsible for administering, maintaining, securing, and optimizing the enterprise Alteryx environment. This role supports Alteryx Designer and Alteryx Server users while ensuring that analytics workflows are deployed, scheduled, monitored, and governed according to organizational standards.
The administrator works closely with business users, data engineers, infrastructure teams, database administrators, security teams, and application owners to deliver a stable, scalable, and secure analytics platform.
Key ResponsibilitiesPlatform Administration
- Administer and support Alteryx Server environments across development, testing, and production.
- Configure Alteryx Server components, including Gallery, Controller, Worker nodes, Scheduler, MongoDB, and authentication settings.
- Manage platform configurations, system settings, service accounts, credentials, data connections, and runtime permissions.
- Monitor server availability, workflow execution, resource utilization, queue times, and overall platform performance.
- Troubleshoot failed workflows, scheduling issues, connectivity problems, authentication errors, and server outages.
- Coordinate Alteryx Server installations, upgrades, patches, migrations, and disaster-recovery activities.
- Maintain backups of MongoDB, configuration files, encryption keys, and other critical platform components.
User and Access Management
- Provision and manage users, studios, collections, subscriptions, roles, and permissions.
- Implement role-based access controls and ensure users have appropriate access to workflows, data connections, and shared assets.
- Manage service accounts and shared credentials used by production workflows.
- Support user onboarding, offboarding, and access-review processes.
- Partner with security teams to maintain compliance with organizational access-control requirements.
Workflow Deployment and Production Support
- Support the promotion of Alteryx workflows across development, testing, and production environments.
- Review workflows for production readiness, including dependencies, credentials, data sources, schedules, and performance.
- Configure and maintain workflow schedules and dependencies.
- Monitor scheduled jobs and resolve workflow failures, delays, and queue congestion.
- Coordinate incident response and root-cause analysis for production issues.
- Establish deployment, rollback, validation, and change-management procedures.
Governance and Standards
- Develop and enforce standards for workflow naming, documentation, folder structures, collections, scheduling, and production deployment.
- Maintain an inventory of workflows, owners, schedules, data connections, dependencies, and business-critical applications.
- Establish governance processes for workflow ownership, lifecycle management, archival, and decommissioning.
- Support audit requests by providing workflow execution history, access records, platform configurations, and data-lineage information.
- Ensure workflows comply with data privacy, security, retention, and regulatory requirements.
- Create operating procedures, technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, and platform runbooks.
Performance and Capacity Management
- Analyze workflow execution history, queue activity, memory consumption, CPU utilization, and processing duration.
- Identify inefficient or resource-intensive workflows and work with developers to improve performance.
- Recommend scheduling adjustments, worker-node configurations, or infrastructure changes based on workload patterns.
- Conduct platform capacity planning and recommend scaling strategies.
- Develop reports and dashboards for platform utilization, workflow success rates, failures, and service-level performance.
Data Connectivity and Integration
- Configure and maintain connections to databases, cloud platforms, file systems, APIs, SFTP locations, and enterprise applications.
- Support connections to platforms such as SQL Server, Oracle, Snowflake, SAP HANA, PostgreSQL, and other supported data sources.
- Coordinate with database, network, security, and infrastructure teams to resolve connectivity issues.
- Manage drivers, connection aliases, credentials, and data-source configurations.
- Ensure production workflows use secure and supportable connection methods.
User Support and Enablement
- Provide technical support to Alteryx Designer and Server users.
- Assist users with workflow deployment, scheduling, permissions, data connections, and performance troubleshooting.
- Deliver training and guidance on Alteryx platform standards and production best practices.
- Communicate platform incidents, maintenance windows, upgrades, and process changes to stakeholders.
- Serve as the subject-matter expert for Alteryx platform administration and governance.
Requirements
- Five or more years of experience administering or supporting Alteryx Server in an enterprise environment.
- Experience integrating Alteryx with cloud and big data platforms, including Snowflake and Databricks, for scalable data processing, analytics, and enterprise workflow execution.
- Experience with Alteryx Designer, Alteryx Server, Gallery, Scheduler, Controller, Worker nodes, and MongoDB.
- Understanding of ETL and ELT processes, workflow orchestration, data integration, and analytics platforms.
- Experience managing development, testing, and production environments.
- Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
- Experience troubleshooting workflow failures, server performance, data connections, and authentication issues.
- Understanding of access management, service accounts, credentials, encryption, and security controls.
- Experience supporting platform upgrades, migrations, backups, and disaster-recovery procedures.
- Strong documentation, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Alteryx Server Administration or Alteryx Designer certification.
- Experience with Windows Server, PowerShell, Python, or other automation technologies.
- Experience with SQL Server, Oracle, Snowflake, SAP HANA, PostgreSQL, or cloud data platforms.
- Familiarity with Active Directory, SAML, integrated Windows authentication, and enterprise identity-management systems.
- Experience with Jira, ServiceNow, Git, CI/CD processes, or formal change-management systems.
- Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, data lineage, audit controls, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience supporting highly available or multi-node Alteryx Server environments.
