Job description
The Institutional Data Analytics + Assessment (IDA+A) office within Purdue University's Office of the Provost is seeking a collaborative and motivated Full Stack Developer to design, develop, and maintain modern web applications and digital solutions that support some of Purdue University's most important academic initiatives.
In this role, you'll work across the entire application stack , building responsive, user-friendly front-end experiences while developing secure backend services, APIs, databases, and integrations that power enterprise applications. Working alongside data scientists, analysts, and campus partners, you'll create scalable solutions that support curriculum analytics, faculty annual performance review, institutional assessment, and other strategic initiatives across the University.
This position offers the opportunity to participate in the full software development lifecycle-from gathering requirements and designing solutions to developing, testing, deploying, and enhancing applications. You'll collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver complete solutions from user interface design through backend architecture, cloud deployment, and ongoing support. You'll also gain experience with Microsoft Azure, accessibility standards, enterprise software development, and modern development practices while contributing to projects that have a meaningful impact across Purdue.
We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, learning new technologies, collaborating with others, and building thoughtful software that delivers an exceptional user experience., Design, develop, test, and maintain modern web applications using both front-end and back-end technologies. Build responsive, accessible, and user-friendly interfaces using current front-end technologies and design best practices. Develop and maintain backend services, databases, and APIs that support enterprise applications. Troubleshoot, optimize, and enhance application performance, reliability, and security. Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from planning through deployment and ongoing support.
Support and Enhance Web Platforms
Maintain and improve a portfolio of websites and web applications supporting the Provost's Office. Develop new features, pages, and functionality while ensuring responsive design and accessibility compliance. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and implement effective technical solutions. Help ensure applications meet WCAG accessibility standards and follow modern web development best practices.
Contribute to Cloud-Based Solutions
Support applications hosted in Microsoft Azure. Assist with application deployment, configuration, monitoring, and ongoing maintenance. Collaborate with Purdue IT and project partners to ensure secure, reliable, and scalable solutions. Identify opportunities to improve application performance and system reliability.
Collaborate Across Campus
Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and campus stakeholders to design and implement software solutions. Translate user needs into functional, maintainable applications. Participate in testing, quality assurance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement efforts. Communicate technical concepts clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Documentation and Continuous Learning
Create and maintain technical documentation for applications, APIs, and development processes. Stay current on emerging technologies, accessibility standards, and software development best practices. Contribute to a collaborative team environment focused on learning, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics Technology, Web Design and Development, or a related field. Two (2) years of professional experience developing full stack web applications, including both front-end user interfaces and backend application development. In lieu of a degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience; Associate's + 4 years' experience or HS/GED + 6 years of experience. Experience in designing and developing responsive, dynamic websites from conception to finished product. Ability to interpret and document end-user information needs. Knowledge of current web design and accessibility standards. Excellent problem-solver. Demonstrates a high commitment to quality, are highly thorough and dependable.
Skills: Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and modern frameworks (React or Vue) Server-side development experience (Python, Node.js, or PHP) with RESTful API design Relational database design and management Responsive, cross-browser, and WCAG-accessible development Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure preferred), Git, and Agile/SDLC practices Experience with CMS platforms (WordPress or Cascade), SSO/identity management, and data visualization tools (e.g., D3.js)
Nice to Have: Experience working in higher education. Experience consulting with users to gather requirements and develop technical solutions. Experience developing responsive web applications. Adobe Creative Cloud proficiency
