Job description

Role summary: The Principal Data Scientist will lead the development and deployment of advanced analytical models and machine learning solutions to address complex business challenges. This role requires deep expertise in coding, statistical analysis, and data visualization to translate business requirements into impactful data-driven strategies. The position involves mentoring team members, collaborating cross-functionally, and ensuring the delivery of scalable, high-quality solutions that drive measurable business value. The successful candidate will apply rigorous testing, validation, and continuous improvement practices while aligning technical efforts with organizational objectives. About the team: The team specializes in data governance and preparing data for AI applications using scalable, cloud-native platforms and model-driven design. It manages the full software development lifecycle with a focus on high availability and reliability. Collaborating across functions, the team defines clear problems and delivers solutions aligned with business objectives. Committed to technical excellence, it drives continuous improvement through innovative tools, architectural standards, and knowledge sharing. This group plays a key role in advancing Walmart's engineering vision and evolving platform capabilities to effectively support AI and machine learning integration. What you'll do:

  • Develop, test, and deploy advanced data science solutions using programming languages such as Python and SQL.
  • Analyze complex business problems to design effective, data-driven strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Identify and validate appropriate data sources, ensuring data quality and relevance for modeling efforts.
  • Lead the creation and evaluation of analytical models, applying machine learning and statistical techniques to generate actionable insights.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable data science initiatives.
  • Mentor team members on technical approaches, model development, and best practices.
  • Communicate findings through compelling data visualizations and presentations to influence decision-making.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in developing and testing code using languages such as Python, SQL, and Java.
  • Proficiency in machine learning algorithms, deep learning, and advanced statistical analysis techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of data source identification, data quality assessment, and data strategy implementation.
  • Ability to translate complex business problems into analytical models and actionable insights.
  • Expertise in deploying, monitoring, and scaling machine learning models in production environments.
  • Skilled in data visualization tools and techniques to effectively communicate findings.

Option 1: Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 5 years' experience in an analytics related field.
