Job description
UAS (Uncrewed Aerial Systems) Embedded Autonomy Software Developer (M/F) - Airbus UpNext Spain, Getafe. Start ASAP on a limited contract linked to the delivery of a demonstrator with an estimated completion date at the end of December2028.
The role is part of the FlightMind team and works under the technical direction of the Embedded Autonomy Software Lead. You will develop the software infrastructure and reusable components needed to deploy autonomy functions across multiple UAS platforms, connecting ROS2 applications, model-generated software and real-time operating systems., * Design and maintain modular C/C++ and Python software components for embedded RTOS environments.
- Deploy autonomy applications in real-time, partitioned environments (POSIX, ARINC653) while optimizing CPU/memory usage and latency.
- Build and configure ROS2 nodes, topics and QoS settings; bridge ROS2/DDS systems with non-ROS and RTOS applications using explicit, versioned interfaces.
- Automate code generation from MATLAB/Simulink and build developer tooling, CI/CD pipelines and scripts (Python, CMake) to streamline build, test and deployment workflows.
- Develop hardware/sensor abstraction layers to decouple autonomy software from specific target platforms.
- Integrate and debug software on simulation benches and airborne hardware.
Requirements
- Strong C/C++, Python and Linux skills with deep knowledge of ROS2 and embedded RTOS (e.g., PikeOS, VxWorks).
- Solid grasp of real-time software concepts (determinism, scheduling) and experience with automatic code generation from MATLAB/Simulink.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Jenkins), Docker, CMake and automated software quality/testing tools.
- Background in aerospace, robotics or autonomous systems; familiarity with DO-178C or equivalent safety-related standards is a plus.
- Proactive, agile problem-solver who values technical excellence, transparency and a fast-paced environment.
Benefits & conditions
- Strategic role in a cutting-edge mission with significant impact on UAS flight capabilities.
- Hybrid working with flexible hours and the option to work remotely.
- Supportive, start-up-style culture backed by Airbus expertise; open-space office and regular community events.
- Ongoing professional development and learning opportunities.
