SQL Applications Systems Engineer - SQL Server, Power BI, Azure
£85,000-£95,000 | Fully Remote | Permanent
An international professional services firm is seeking a senior SQL Applications Systems Engineer to take ownership of its global Microsoft SQL Server environment and the business-critical applications that rely upon it.
Working within a small, experienced team, you will be responsible for maintaining the availability, performance and resilience of the firm's SQL infrastructure. You will also support application integrations, Business Intelligence technologies and a substantial pipeline of upcoming infrastructure and AI-related projects.
This is a high-ownership position suited to someone who can manage their own workload, lead technical projects and independently resolve complex database and application issues.
Key responsibilities:
- Administer, monitor and maintain Microsoft SQL Server instances and databases
- Diagnose performance, availability and application-related issues
- Install and configure SQL Server and associated technologies
- Manage Always On Availability Groups, replication, mirroring and log shipping
- Write and optimise advanced SQL queries and stored procedures
- Design and maintain integrations between enterprise applications
- Support SQL Server Business Intelligence tools, including SSIS, SSAS, SSRS and Power BI
- Contribute to installations, upgrades, customisations, backup and disaster-recovery planning
- Support the firm's document management and related business applications
- Independently manage technical projects and advise colleagues on SQL architecture and best practice
Essential experience:
- At least five years' Microsoft SQL Server administration experience within an enterprise environment
- Advanced T-SQL, stored procedures and performance tuning
- Strong SQL Server installation, configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting experience
- Knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery technologies
- Experience with SSIS, SSAS, SSRS and/or Power BI
- Understanding of Windows Server, networking, storage and server infrastructure
- Ability to independently own projects and manage competing priorities
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Desirable experience:
- Power BI administration, troubleshooting and best practice
- Azure SQL or wider cloud platform experience
- PowerShell, Python, C# or .NET
- iManage Work
- Intapp applications or integration technologies
- Experience within legal or professional services
- Microsoft Fabric, Docker, Linux or MongoDB
The role can be performed fully remotely within the UK, with occasional visits to the London office for team meetings and events. Standard working hours are 9:30am-5:30pm.
