Job description
A manufacturer of electro-optic devices (moving from analog to digital product lines) needs a senior Qt developer to design and build the graphical user interface for next-generation devices. The interface will run on embedded hardware, controlled via a small physical button array (4-6 buttons), allowing users to switch between imagery backgrounds and overlays.
You'll work closely with the company's FPGA/hardware engineer, who owns the hardware side, and will have direct input into UI/UX architecture decisions during the pre-development planning phase.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop a Qt-based GUI for embedded electro-optic hardware, controlled via physical buttons (no touchscreen/mouse)
- Collaborate with the FPGA systems engineer to define technical requirements and integration points
- Advise the client (a non-technical team) on the simplest, most robust UI architecture for their goals
- Participate in scoping discussions with the end client as needed
- Build for long-term, ongoing collaboration across multiple device generations
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with Qt (C++ based GUI development)
- Working knowledge of C++ and Python
- Experience designing UI for embedded/hardware-constrained systems (not general desktop/web apps)
- Fluent English (remote client communication, async-friendly)
- Must be a U.S. citizen; role touches ITAR-controlled end products, * Background in electro-optics, military-grade sighting/imaging systems, or similar defense-adjacent hardware
- Familiarity with camera/imaging pipelines
