Job description
The GN&T Network Security team has an opening for Engineer IV in the Network Access organization. This role will center around a newly created function within Network Security specifically Jumphosts. The team will consist of engineers at varying levels that are collectively responsible for the respective function.
Infrastructure Access Engineering - This team will design, build, and manage a newly-created Network Security-owned platform that will serve as centralized access points for the network teams to reach their devices.
This function is provided as a service to other network teams, providing them centralized mechanisms to help implement and adhere to the Network Security Fundamentals (Access Management, Situational Awareness, Configuration Hardening, Vulnerability Mitigation) at scale. A successful candidate will possess both strong inter-personal and technical skills. They will be expected to work within and across team barriers to take these functions from concepts to design and ultimately to production implementation., * Design & Architecture: Collaborate with senior engineers to translate complex business requirements into functional specs and actionable technical designs.
- Platform Implementation: Build and maintain a highly available, redundant Jumphost platform to ensure flawless system reliability and business continuity.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a technical SME, facilitating knowledge sharing within Network Security and across broader business units.
- Deployment & Integration: Deploy, configure, and validate new hardware and software, ensuring seamless and secure integration into our existing infrastructure.
- Performance Monitoring: Track and adhere to appropriate KPIs to manage platform performance and capacity, proactively addressing any scalability and resiliency needs. This role can be located in any US based Verizon hub location.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
- Four or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
- Deep knowledge and understanding of networking and network security.
- Technical work experience in Security, IT, or Networking.
- Strong knowledge of Linux environment.
- Experience planning, building, and running network security solutions.
- Proven leadership skills and business acumen within a large organization.
- Experience building relationships across business units.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
- Strong networking and cybersecurity knowledge and experience.
- Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies and cloud infrastructure, specifically VMware and OpenStack.
- Experience designing or operating within containerized environments using Kubernetes.
- Proficiency with Splunk and modern SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) tools to drive threat detection and situational awareness.
- Established track record in managing complex processes, driving results, and adapting to change.
