Job description
ACS Professional Staffing is looking for an employee to work on-site with our client. This System Administrator 3 is responsible for administering and supporting critical business applications, ensuring reliable system performance and availability. The role provides advanced technical guidance, interprets and applies IT policies, and collaborates with technical experts to support application readiness and production operations. The ideal candidate is highly organized, adaptable to new technologies, and able to manage multiple high-priority projects in a fast-paced environment. This full-time position is located in Portland, Oregon., * With Workplace Manager/Team Lead Oversight and Approval:
- Analyze, test, and apply changes to the application environment under the prevailing change management procedures and requirements.
- Analyze data, identify quality assurance/quality control issues and report any failures of maintenance trends, including issues that may have origins in upstream systems.
- Analyze and propose technical designs that satisfy functional and non-functional requirements which also optimize the long- term maintainability of the system.
- Assist with gathering and transforming information/data for prototyping automation efforts.
- Break down technical work into tasks and provide reasonable time estimates for completion.
- Collaborate with project managers, business analysts, software developers, QA testers, and users throughout the System Life Cycle (SLC).
- Communicate status of project development work to project team, users, information system owners and others.
- Communicate with internal stakeholders in small and large settings about new initiatives and improvements.
- Confer with system users about how to solve existing system problems.
- Create and maintain technical records, such as network charts, system specifications, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical problems, system downtime, and hardware errors promptly.
- Evaluate systems, identify potential issues by analyzing performance data and trends, and anticipate new requirements.
- Explain complex technical concepts and processes to both technical and non-technical audience to foster understanding.
- Identify and escalate technical bottlenecks and impediments.
- Identify or resolve problems in applications at all system tiers (Application, Server, Database, and Network).
- Interpret design requirements and assist in technical design on related projects.
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot any issues impacting all applications supported within CBS.
- Lead complex system migrations, upgrades, and other IT initiatives, as assigned.
- Learn new technologies and stay updated with industry trends at a high pace.
- Leverage subject matter expertise to support all applications using scripting languages like PowerShell for automation and efficient task management.
- Maintain all security requirements for all systems and applications supported by CBS, examples include access controls, backups, firewalls, security audits, and preventing breaches.
- Mentor and assist other team members and provide infrequent technical training to peers.
- Monitor system performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future.
- Participate in group improvement efforts and initiatives, which may include providing technical input and recommendations; and drafting processes, procedures, standards, guidelines and other organizational documentation, such as Continuity of Operations Plans (COOP), Change Management policies, etc.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement system security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.
- Practice time management and support multiple projects and deadlines based on mission priorities, availability and management direction.
- Provide technical assistance to end-users and effectively resolve their issues.
- Provide emergency on-call and backup support for existing systems and functions.
- Note: The location for on-call and backup support may be at client facilities or off-site.
- Quickly adapt to new technologies and challenges.
- Share expert knowledge in Windows along with experience supporting other operating systems like Linux, RedHat, and other enterprise systems.
- Support applications that are hosted within a diverse hardware set, which include servers, storage arrays, virtual and physical tape libraries, and install and maintain new software as the mission demands.
- Support Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) standards and North American Electric Reliability Corporation critical infrastructure protection (NERC-CIP) compliance when performing assigned work.
- Work collaboratively with users and technical staff to design streamlined user interfaces.
- Work effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers, QA, and business stakeholders, to ensure seamless deployment and functionality.
- Work with teams to ensure applications are communicating appropriately with databases providing management and maintenance as required, especially for systems involving Microsoft.
- Work with team to ensure network standards (TCP/IP, VLANs, Ethernet), network administration, and network security (firewalls, load balancers, intrusion detection systems) are understood and supported effectively.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Business Systems, Engineering or a directly related field is preferred.
- 6 years of experience is required with an applicable bachelor's degree.
- 10 years of experience is required without an applicable bachelor's degree.
- Experience should include demonstrated work experience supporting and maintaining operational software applications in Computer Science/Information Technology and transforming data for automation efforts.
- 7 years of the following experience:
- Experience in Database queries and stored procedures
- Experience in Scripting to automate tasks with PowerShell
- Experience in various operating systems like Windows, Linux, RedHat, and specific enterprise systems is crucial. This includes installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Experience in troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve complex technical problems, system downtime, and hardware errors promptly.
- Microsoft Office Suite applications, specifically PowerPoint, Access, and Project
- Knowledge of and proficient skill in applying the following:
- Designing and/or maintaining high availability systems having 24×7 support
- Using Version Control Systems
- Proven experience collaborating with software developers, testers and users throughout the System Life Cycle (SLC)
- Ability to create and maintain clearly written technical, user, and system documentation
- Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems, with understanding of impact on current and future programs and processes.
- Provide a sustainable IT infrastructure by supplying cross training and functional documentation.
- Experience in all aspects of the software development lifecycle for a high availability environment.
- Experience using centralized repository based CMDB tools
- Knowledge of and experience working with:
- Software development Lifecycle methodologies
- Systems development and maintenance environments
- High availability environments
- Change management concepts and practices
- Configuration management concepts and practices
- Project management and coordination concepts and principles
- Compliance and standards as applied to systems development and program management
- Process and procedure development
- Experience in any aspect of software development lifecycle for a utility environment.
- Experience with the set-up, configuration or oversight of change and/or configuration management tools
- Experience developing process, procedures to support compliance efforts
- Excel at solving problems by debugging, troubleshooting
- Designing and implementing solutions to complex technical issues.
- Governmental processes and (electric) utility experience
- Valid U.S. Driver's License is required.
