Job description

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking an experienced to support the modernization of a mission-critical government information system. This role focuses on Oracle 19c database administration, supporting both on-premises infrastructure and AWS RDS environments. The Database Engineer will be responsible for database design, performance optimization, security, backup/recovery, migrations, and integrations with enterprise applications.   • Administer, configure, and maintain Oracle 19c databases across on-premises infrastructure and AWS RDS environments, including database creation, schema design, patching, upgrades, performance tuning, monitoring, and production support.
  • Design and implement backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and Oracle security hardening strategies to ensure data integrity, availability, and compliance with government security requirements.
  • Support enterprise application integrations by optimizing database interactions with Java applications, SAP Business Intelligence reporting frameworks, and Apache Solr indexing while assisting with database migrations from VMware/on-premises environments to AWS RDS.
  • Troubleshoot complex production database issues, implement compliance controls (FISMA, FedRAMP, or similar), maintain technical documentation, and collaborate with infrastructure, security, application, and business teams to ensure reliable database operations.

Requirements

  • 13+ years of experience in database administration, systems engineering, information technology, or a related technical field with comparable responsibilities.
  • Bachelor's degree may substitute for 4 years of experience; Master's degree may substitute for 6 years of experience.
  • Extensive experience administering Oracle 19c databases in production environments across both AWS RDS and on-premises infrastructure.

  • Experience with database schema design, performance tuning, optimization, Oracle patching and upgrades, backup and recovery, disaster recovery planning, Oracle security hardening, and production troubleshooting.

  • Experience integrating Oracle databases with enterprise Java applications, SAP Business Intelligence reporting, and Apache Solr indexing.

  • Knowledge of database monitoring solutions, VMware-to-AWS migration strategies, government compliance frameworks (FISMA, FedRAMP, or similar), and technical documentation.

  • Desired

  • Experience supporting large-scale government modernization or cloud migration initiatives.
  • Experience working within classified or highly regulated government environments.

  • Salary Range: $150,000 - $210,000 depending on experience
