From Bedside Beeps to Interoperable Bytes – Getting your medical devices ready to talk the IEEE 11073 language
Richard Bieck - 2 years ago
The operating room (OR) is a complex environment where medical devices should be interoperable across vendors to reduce the burden on medical personnel and to improve patient treatment. In this session we will explore the current state of medical device interoperability and the IEEE 11073 norm family, also known as Service-Oriented Device Connectivity (SDC). I will introduce the SDC structure and implementation concepts, design a medical device, and describe how service-oriented provision of medical device data can be achieved in an OR environment. We also highlight future applications and challenges in achieving semantic interoperability and workflow integration for medical devices.
