World Congress 2024

Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Fire: A New Dev’s Guide to Navigating Unfamiliar Codebases

July 19, 2024 13:00 – 13:30 · 30 min Virtual Stage 1

What this session covers

Onboarding to a new project can be difficult, no matter your background and experience. But it can be especially challenging for new developers straight out of school or a coding bootcamp. Drawing on my personal experience as a bootcamp grad and JavaScript consultant, this talk will discuss strategies for new developers to quickly get their bearings in an unfamiliar codebase.

Attendees are promised this: whether you are a newer dev, an experienced dev, a manager, or anywhere in between, you will walk away with at least 1 concrete tip to try the next time that you are onboarding to a new project, or helping someone else to do so.
