World Congress 2024

Observability and instrumentation via OpenTelemetry

July 19, 2024 15:00 โ€“ 15:30 ยท 30 min Virtual Stage 1

What this session covers

This talk will cover the basics of observability - what are metrics, logs, and traces, and what is the difference between them. Then we will talk about what instrumentation is. Then we will talk about how instrumentation is meant to be standardized via the open-source telemetry solution OpenTelemetry. Finally, we will see how instrumentation can be done via OpenTelemetry in Python. We will see a live demo in detail of how tracing works, all based on open-source examples hosted on my own GitHub account.
