From Mainframe to Modular: The Developer’s Guide to Legacy Modernization

July 10, 2025 15:45 – 17:45 · 120 min M6 (40 Seats)

What this session covers

Modernizing legacy systems is one of the toughest – and most rewarding – challenges in enterprise IT. In this session, Jannis, Lars, Hergy and Kritika share how they are transforming mission-critical legacy systems and mainframe applications to a modern state of the art banking platform for the German Sparkasse Finance Group and their 50 million customers. From COBOL to Java, from monolithic mainframes to shared services and cloud-native architectures – we explore different modernization strategies and where the mainframe still makes sense. A special focus lies on empowering developers: by automating routine tasks and improving the developer experience, we enable teams to shape the future, not just maintain the past.
