Job description

JOB SUMMARY: The role of the Informational Technology System Administrator is to manage in-house computer software systems, servers, storage devices and network connections to ensure high availability and security of the supported applications. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with the Jefferson County Schools IT Department goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. This is a highly technical role in a complex K-12 environment. Candidates should already have hands-on experience with core systems and be able to contribute quickly while continuing to learn. We are looking for a Systems Administrator who is both technically capable and a strong team collaborator. This is not an isolated role-success requires working closely with other IT staff, communicating openly, and contributing to shared problem-solving.   • Manage virtual and physical workstations and servers with updated Windows operating systems, including virtual environments, a cloud-based Mobile Device Management (MDM) and Mobile Application Management (MAM) service, relational database server, server clustering, LDAP management, and cloud provisioning.
  • Manage Active Directory, group policy, and DNS support/management. Manage local endpoint management, print management, SOC, transportation, and other software solutions.
  • Support NAS, MS DFS, and SAN storage, file share management, and cloud storage management.
  • Manage and validate routine backups, maintain, and secure local servers, and attend security meetings. Develop plans for network outages, ransomware attacks, and natural disasters. Implement industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Create and update documentation, develop reports based on end-user and management needs, and maintain server component inventory and technical specifications.
  • Manage end-user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations, and Asset Management and Work Order solution.
  • 1 to 1 devices rostering, app and extensions, administration, and back-end management.
  • Anticipate, identify, troubleshoot, mitigate, and correct hardware and software issues on servers and workstations. Escalate incidents as necessary.
  • Manage vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure software products and services. Collaborate on future projects and manage device recycling/replacement/refresh plans.
  • Manage the physical environment of server racks, including cable management, documentation, labeling, and maintaining battery backups.
  • Relational database server and scripts management.
  • Assist with Visitor Management software and Transportation Management Software support/management.
  • Be available outside of normal business hours for emergencies, performing off hour upgrades, installing patches, service packs, troubleshooting, etc.
  • Image and provision servers and all end user devices as well as recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware upgrades, patches and reconfigurations to maintain a strong security presence.
  • Have familiarity with network routing and switching principles and hardware
  • Update and manage all IT systems.
  • Assist in the completion of the work order system requests.
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently while staying aligned and communicating regularly with the team and effectively complete work assignments and projects in a timely fashion and to meet deadlines.

  • Any industry certification
  • Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code 18A-5-15c, * CompTIA A+ certification
  • MCP and Network+ certifications. CompTIA Security+
  • MCSA, CCENT or CCNA, Requires the ability to perform the duties contained in this description. Valid driver’s license. Ability to lift and move computer terminals and peripheral equipment.

Benefits & conditions

Minimum 261 days annually, pursuant to WV Code 18A-4-8; extended employment terms may be established by JCBOE, Pursuant to WV Code 18A-4-8a, in accordance with Jefferson County, Salary Scale. Professional 3rd Tier.
