Job description
We are looking for a Software Development Manager to lead a team of engineers building core platform components for Amazon Bedrock AgentCore. In this role, you will own the technical direction, delivery, and operational excellence of services that power agentic AI workloads for AWS customers worldwide., Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 17+ software development engineers building distributed systems at scale
- Own the end-to-end delivery of AgentCore platform services, from design through production operations
- Partner with Principal Engineers and peer SDMs to define technical strategy and architecture for agentic AI infrastructure
- Drive operational excellence including on-call, incident response, and continuous improvement of service availability
- Collaborate with product management to translate customer needs into engineering roadmaps
- Hire and develop top engineering talent; raise the bar on technical depth and engineering practices
- Make sound technical trade-offs balancing speed of delivery, quality, and long-term maintainability
- Represent the team in cross-organizational planning and alignment with AWS leadership
A day in the life As an SDM on this team, youâll split your time between people leadership, technical strategy, and delivery. A typical day might include reviewing a design doc and pushing your engineers toward simpler, more operationally sound solutions; holding a 1:1 focused on career growth; and partnering with peer managers and principal engineers to shape the next quarterâs roadmap. Youâll stay close enough to the technical details to make sound trade-offs, while giving your team the space and clarity they need to do their best work.
Youâll also be the connective tissue between your team and the broader organization-translating customer needs and leadership priorities into focused engineering plans, removing blockers, and ensuring operational health. Some days lean more toward hiring and talent development; others toward debugging a customer escalation or aligning cross-team dependencies. What stays constant is that youâre building both the systems and the team, and you have real ownership over how both evolve.
About the team We are part of the Agentic AI Foundation organization within AWS, building Amazon Bedrock AgentCore-the platform that enables developers to deploy and operate AI agents at scale. Our services provide the foundational infrastructure-serverless runtime, session management, memory, observability, identity, and gateway-that customers rely on to run agentic workloads in production.
Specifically, this team owns AgentCoreâs Tools services, including Code Interpreter and Browser-the sandboxed execution environments that give AI agents the ability to write and run code, and interact with the web on behalf of users. These are critical capabilities that unlock a new class of agentic workflows, and weâre building them from the ground up. We work with any AI framework and any foundation model, and our goal is to make it as easy to operate an AI agent as it is to run a Lambda function.
This is a team thatâs building something new in a space thatâs evolving fast. We operate with startup-level urgency inside AWS, shipping quickly while maintaining the operational bar our customers expect. Youâll work alongside strong engineers and technical leaders who care deeply about what they do, and youâll have the autonomy to shape both the product and the engineering culture as we scale.
