Job description

In this role as an R&D Sensor Test Engineer, you will support testing, documentation, and design-control execution for patient monitoring sensors and related system components. This role will contribute to development and sustaining projects across the sensor portfolio, including Nellcor pulse oximetry, INVOS regional oximetry, and BIS depth of anesthesia monitoring solutions.

The role is focused on physical product testing, sensor and patient monitoring system evaluation, test method and fixture support, engineering documentation, design verification and validation activities, and sustaining engineering support.

This position is well suited for an early-career engineer who is hands-on, detail-oriented, and interested in building broad experience across medical device testing, documentation, and sustaining engineering.

A Day in the Life

  • Execute engineering tests to support feasibility studies, design characterization, regression testing, verification/validation activities, and sustaining engineering projects.
  • Draft, revise, and execute test protocols and reports under the guidance of project engineers.
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize test data using appropriate engineering tools such as Excel, Minitab, MATLAB, Python, or similar tools.
  • Support tolerance analysis, regression analysis, gauge studies, risk assessments, and other evaluations related to product performance and manufacturing variability.
  • Support updates to CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, and other design documentation as needed for test and sustaining activities.
  • Build, modify, and inspect prototypes, test samples, fixtures, and product mockups for engineering evaluation.
  • Support setup, troubleshooting, and improvement of test fixtures, test equipment, and test methods used for sensor and system-level evaluations.
  • Support released-product sustaining activities, including design changes, material changes, supplier changes, component end-of-life evaluations, manufacturing issues, and quality investigations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical discipline., * Foundational understanding of engineering testing, data analysis, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to execute test protocols, collect data accurately, and summarize results clearly.
  • Working knowledge of CAD tools, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work within structured documentation and design-control processes.
  • Experience in a regulated industry, preferably medical devices.
  • Familiarity with design verification and validation, design controls, risk management, or quality-system documentation.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, Minitab, JMP, or similar tools for engineering analysis.
  • Experience with tolerance analysis, regression analysis, gauge R&R, process capability, or root cause analysis.
  • Experience building prototypes using 3D printing, laser cutting, fixture development, or basic lab tools.
  • Experience supporting engineering change orders, BOM updates, specifications, drawings, or design history file documentation.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
