Job description

This is a hands-on, build-as-you-go role for someone who wants to own technology end to end at a fast-moving startup - not maintain it inside an established one. As one of the only dedicated IT hires in the company, you’ll be the single point of accountability for infrastructure, business systems, integrations, identity, security, and continuity, often making fast, pragmatic calls with imperfect information and no playbook to follow. We’re a marketplace services business selling partner brands across retail channels, and our systems, priorities, and headcount all shift constantly as we scale.

We want to be upfront about the environment: this is a scrappy startup, not a corporate IT department. Things will change quickly - priorities, tools, vendors, even the shape of the role itself - and you’ll often be standing up a working solution today rather than the perfect solution next quarter. Moving fast isn’t just a nice-to-have here; it’s a requirement for succeeding in this role.

Core Competencies

Systems, Infrastructure & Vendor Management

  • Own the full technology stack - network, infrastructure, and business applications - and continuously improve it as the business and budget evolve.
  • Define, scope, evaluate, and implement new systems end to end, standing up solutions quickly with limited resources rather than waiting on a fully vetted, drawn-out process.
  • Manage, install, and configure network equipment across vendors (e.g., Cisco Meraki, UniFi); monitor performance, capacity, and uptime, and resolve issues fast before they become business problems.
  • Own email and collaboration tools, endpoint security, the phone system, and office access control end to end - provisioning, support, and protection across a growing device fleet.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for vendor relationships: negotiate contracts, licensing, and SLAs, hold vendors accountable, and keep a technology roadmap that flexes with shifting business priorities.

Business Systems & Integrations

  • Administer the company’s ERP/WMS (NetSuite): user roles and permissions, custom forms, fields, records, approval workflows, SuiteScript customizations, SuiteApps, sandbox refreshes, dashboards, and reporting.
  • Manage marketplace connections into the ERP/WMS, troubleshooting broken flows and building new integrations as the business adds channels and partners.
  • Keep documentation of configurations, data flows, and integration logic current enough that systems stay maintainable even as things change quickly.

Identity, Access & Security

  • Own IAM across all systems - provisioning, onboarding, offboarding, and Google Workspace administration - with SSO and lifecycle automation treated as a build priority, not an afterthought.
  • Enforce least-privilege access and segregation of duties, balancing security rigor with the speed a small team needs to keep moving.
  • Define and enforce IT and acceptable-use policies, including AI tool usage and third-party connector approvals, and run lightweight, practical security awareness training for staff.

Continuity, Risk & Support

  • Establish, maintain, and test backup and disaster recovery procedures; define RTO/RPO for critical systems and validate them through real testing, not paper plans.
  • Build redundancy and monitoring into critical systems to minimize downtime and data-loss risk as the business scales.
  • Run the helpdesk/ticketing process and serve as the escalation point for IT support, resolving issues across tiers without a large team to lean on.
  • Manage security incident reporting and system monitoring consistent with company policy.

What Success Looks Like in This Environment

You’ll thrive in this role if:

  • You default to action over analysis paralysis - comfortable making a call with 70% of the information rather than waiting for 100%.
  • You can ship something functional fast and improve it later, rather than needing a fully scoped spec before you start.
  • You stay steady when priorities shift mid-project - because here, they will.
  • You’re equally comfortable troubleshooting a network switch and negotiating a vendor contract - this role wears a lot of hats.
  • You see ambiguity and constant change as part of the job, not an obstacle to it.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on IT experience, preferably in a startup, high-growth, retail, e-commerce, marketplace, distribution, or consumer products environment.
  • Proven ability to own IT end to end, including infrastructure, business systems, integrations, security, vendor management, user support, and continuity planning.
  • Strong experience with network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, wireless networks, monitoring, and platforms such as Cisco Meraki, UniFi, or similar tools.
  • Experience administering core business and collaboration systems, including Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, endpoint security, phone systems, access control, and SaaS platforms.
  • ERP/WMS experience required; NetSuite experience strongly preferred, including roles, permissions, workflows, dashboards, reporting, SuiteApps, and system configuration.
  • Experience supporting system integrations, APIs, middleware, marketplace connections, EDI, or data flows between business-critical platforms.
  • Strong understanding of IAM, onboarding/offboarding, SSO, MFA, least-privilege access, cybersecurity fundamentals, backup/disaster recovery, and IT policy enforcement.
  • Ability to manage vendors, evaluate tools, negotiate licensing or service agreements, and hold partners accountable to timelines and SLAs.
  • Comfortable operating as both the strategic IT owner and the hands-on technical problem solver in a lean, fast-changing environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and prioritization skills, with the ability to move quickly and make sound decisions with limited structure.
