Job description

Dominion Energy seeks candidates for a Software Engineer position located in Richmond, Virginia. Position responsibilities include supporting a SCADA EMS system and Synchrophasor EMS system used to operate and monitor the Electric Transmission electrical power system and other assets. A broad knowledge and/or willingness to learn a variety of skills from configuration, programming, automation, business operations etc. will be required.

It is essential the successful applicant be a highly motivated self-starter that can and will be responsible for their work with minimal direction and supervision. Works independently and as part of the team, this role works with senior engineers to formulates and define specifications for complex software programming applications and to modify/maintain complex existing code. Responsibilities include working with an application dealing with the overall operating system and complex in operation and activities. Candidate is responsible for working with an individual business unit on multi-project assignments. 1. 1. o Support SCADA EMS system across Dominion Energy’s electrical system. o Support Synchrophasor EMS system across Dominion Energy’s electrical system. o Connect new technologies to existing SCADA EMS system and Synchrophasor EMS system with a variety of protocols o Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation o Plan, design, implement, enhance and maintain complex system o Monitor and tune performance of SCADA EMS system and Synchrophasor EMS System.

Requirements

2-3+ years directly related experience.

  • Experience supporting Energy Management System (EMS)
  • Experience supporting Synchrophasor (PMU) Systems
  • Experience in Windows and Linux Operating Systems
  • C++ or similar object-oriented programming languages
  • Proficient in one or more of the following scripting languages (Perl, Python, JavaScript, PowerShell, Linux shell)
  • Basic knowledge of electrical operations
  • Self-motivator; examines problems and investigates for solutions; completes projects without direct supervision.
  • Uses logic to solve difficult problems with effective solutions; proficient at analysis; looks beyond the obvious and doesn’t stop at first answers
  • Makes good decisions (without considering how much time it takes) based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment
  • Spends his/her time and the time of others on what is important; zeros in on the critical few and puts the trivial aside
  • Can be counted on to exceed goals successfully; a constant and consistent top performer; bottom line oriented; pushes self and others for results

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

Bachelor
