Job description

The Chicago location serves as the company’s primary innovation, engineering, and manufacturing hub, where teams develop and produce medium and high voltage switching equipment, smart grid automation systems, energy storage solutions, and power quality technologies. This facility also houses advanced research and development capabilities focused on grid modernization, automation, and resiliency technologies designed to support a more sustainable and outage resistant power grid.

The organization supports customers across electric utilities, renewable energy providers, commercial and industrial operations, data centers, and government and military applications that depend on reliable and resilient electrical power systems.

The Embedded Engineer will play a key role in developing high performance embedded systems that enable advanced control, protection, and communication functions, with approximately 60 percent focus on embedded software development in C and C++ and 40 percent focus on FPGA design., * Design and develop embedded software in C and C++ for real time control, protection, and communication systems used in power grid technologies.

  • Develop and integrate FPGA based components using HDL such as VHDL or Verilog to support high speed signal processing and hardware acceleration.
  • Collaborate with electrical, firmware, FPGA, and systems engineering teams to integrate embedded software and hardware into complex electromechanical systems.
  • Perform debugging, testing, and validation of embedded and FPGA systems to ensure reliability, performance, and compliance with system requirements.
  • Support the full product development lifecycle including architecture definition, prototyping, system integration, and continuous improvement of embedded platforms.

Requirements

Skills: Embedded Development (3-5 Years) FPGA Design (2-3 Years), * Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Strong experience in embedded software development using C and C++ in real time or embedded environments.
  • Working knowledge of FPGA design using VHDL or Verilog, along with experience in simulation and validation tools.
  • Solid understanding of embedded systems, real time processing, and hardware software integration.
  • Nice to have: Experience with communication protocols, digital signal processing, or power systems applications; familiarity with lab testing, debugging tools, and hardware validation processes.
