Staff Software Engineer

We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our early team. This is a full-stack role with a backend lean, ideal for someone who’s built end-to-end features, cares about product quality, and is excited to work across infrastructure, application code, and UX. As we evolve the platform, we’re integrating AI thoughtfully both in how we build and what we deliver. You’ll help shape user-facing features where LLMs and automation improve hospital workflows, while also using tools like Cursor, ChatGPT, and Copilot to move faster and build better. We’re looking for someone who’s not just comfortable with AI in the loop, but curious about how it can reshape the user experience in high-trust domains. What You’ll Do

• Build impactful features end-to-end across React, TypeScript, Postgres, and AWS Lambda to improve real workflows for staff and patients.
• Design with intention and create robust, extensible systems built for the realities of clinical environments.
• Shape how AI works for healthcare from accelerating development internally to streamlining frontline workflows.
• Collaborate on critical trade-offs with product and clinical teams to balance safety, usability, and automation.
• Own the full project arc from clarifying goals, shaping architecture, and managing risks to improving after launch.
• Co-own our engineering culture by raising concerns early, refining processes, and making every release smoother than the last., 3. Founder Round (60 min) (60 min) * 45 min Values Alignment with CTO -We’ll discuss your thoughts, perspectives, and experiences around engineering culture and excellence. I’ll also share more about how we approach culture and values at Banquet.
• 15 min Q&A with CEO & CTO - This will be a more open-ended conversation, giving you the chance to ask questions and learn about the business, our long-term trajectory, and how we see the industry evolving.

5 - 8 years of experience in software engineering, with an emphasis on AI and backend development. Work experience Relevant dev experience at modern, scaling startups (early- stage or fast- moving) Has managed an engineering project with at least one other engineer (project leading experience, not people management). Strong emphasis for either founders or engineers who have held a staff- level title. Startup health- tech experience. Hard skills Full- stack Typescript (eg. React, NodeJS/NextJS/etc. ) Regularly uses AI tools (e. g. Cursor, Copilot, ChatGPT). Terraform, AWS serverless architecture, or IaaC. Built or shipped AI/LLM- powered features. Traits to avoid Avoid candidates who’s experience is exclusively at legacy/incumbent software systems. Avoid job hoppers - multiple years in prior roles is a plus., 1.Coding Screen (45 min) (45 min)- Short coding screen 2.Coding/System Design Round (90 min) (90m) This TS exercise is based on a real use case from our product, giving you a glimpse into the space we’re building in. It’s intentionally open-ended so you can show how you work in a realistic environment, without artificial time pressure or constraints and gives you a chance to demonstrate your approach to system design, problem solving, code quality, testing, debugging, AI-assisted development, and product thinking.
