Job description

At Thermetrics, we help engineers, researchers, and manufacturers better understand the thermal and moisture behavior of materials through precision scientific instrumentation, application expertise, and long-term technical partnerships.

As an Applications Engineer - Service & Support, you’ll become the technical expert customers rely on throughout the life of their equipment. One day you may be helping an engineer troubleshoot a challenging application remotely; the next, you’ll be commissioning a new system, training customer personnel, or collaborating with Product Engineering to improve the next generation of Thermetrics products. Every customer presents unique technical challenges, every project expands your expertise, and every successful solution strengthens long-term customer relationships.

If you enjoy solving complex engineering problems, working directly with customers, and continually expanding your technical capabilities across multiple disciplines, you’ll find this role both challenging and rewarding.

What You’ll Do

As an Applications Engineer - Service & Support, you’ll help customers achieve successful outcomes while serving as the technical bridge between our customers and our engineering team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Travel to customer sites throughout North America to install, commission, troubleshoot, repair, and optimize Thermetrics instrumentation.
  • Deliver customer training on equipment operation, maintenance, and best practices.
  • Perform in-house service, calibration, repair, and functional verification of customer equipment.
  • Diagnose technical issues and develop practical solutions that maximize customer success.
  • Document service activities, technical findings, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering to communicate field observations, recurring issues, and opportunities for product improvement.
  • Support prototype evaluations and new product introductions by providing customer and field-service perspectives.
  • Contribute to Continuous Improvement and Lean initiatives that enhance service quality, documentation, efficiency, and customer experience.

Travel is typically 30% or less, primarily throughout North America, with occasional flexibility to support international customers across different time zones.

What You’ll Learn

At Thermetrics, Applications Engineers develop broad multidisciplinary expertise while becoming trusted technical advisors to customers.

You’ll continue building experience in:

  • Scientific instrumentation
  • Thermal and moisture measurement technologies
  • Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
  • Calibration and product validation
  • Experimental testing
  • Customer training
  • Cross-disciplinary engineering
  • Technical problem solving
  • Continuous Improvement and Lean principles
  • Product development through direct customer feedback

As your experience grows, you’ll have opportunities to contribute to application research, standards development, technical publications, consulting services, new market development, and future product innovation.

Requirements

We’re looking for an engineer who enjoys solving customer problems, learning new technologies, and building long-term technical relationships., * Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Physics, or a related technical discipline.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience supporting, servicing, commissioning, or applying scientific instrumentation, laboratory equipment, automated equipment, or similar engineered products.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to customers with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 30% throughout North America.

Preferred

  • Experience with scientific instrumentation or laboratory equipment.
  • Experience performing equipment startup, commissioning, field service, or technical support.
  • Experience with calibration, validation, or experimental testing.

About the company

We’re a growing engineering company specializing in precision thermal and moisture measurement systems used by customers around the world.

Our engineers enjoy:

  • Solving challenging technical problems that make a direct difference for customers.
  • Working across engineering, manufacturing, and customer applications instead of being confined to a single specialty.
  • Building deep technical expertise while continually learning new technologies.
  • Working closely with Product Engineering to influence future products.
  • Seeing the direct impact of their work on customer success, product quality, and innovation.
  • Growing their careers through demonstrated capability, technical curiosity, and continuous learning.
  • Helping shape a technical support organization that is evolving alongside the company, where new ideas, better processes, and continuous improvement are encouraged and expected.

We believe the best Applications Engineers are more than technical experts-they’re trusted problem solvers who enjoy understanding customers, mastering complex systems, and helping others succeed. As Thermetrics continues to grow, you’ll have the opportunity to influence not only customer success, but also the evolution of our support organization through new ideas, better processes, and continuous improvement.

If you’re energized by solving meaningful engineering challenges while helping build how a growing company operates, you’ll find both the opportunity and the responsibility to make a lasting impact here.
