Job description
Are you structured, curious, and passionate about intuitive user experiences? At Intralox, one of the world’s leading innovators in conveyance solutions, we are looking for an Automation Engineer (HMI & UX) to join our Controls Product Engineering Team and play a key role in improving the usability, consistency, and quality of our customer-facing automation software solutions. Why this role matters You’ll join the Integration Smart Carryway (ISC) team, a subset of Controls Product Engineering. This team supports automation platforms that are expanding beyond our Activated Roller Belt (ARB ) equipment into areas such as spirals and water systems, with close collaboration between colleagues in Europe and the US. What makes this team different is the combination of automation engineering, software quality, and operator-facing design, all aimed at creating solutions that are not only reliable, but also intuitive and easy to use. Collaboration, curiosity, and continuous improvement are at the heart of how we work. As an Automation Engineer (HMI & UX), you’ll help shape how customers and operators interact with our equipment through clear, consistent, and user-friendly HMI solutions. You’ll improve the usability of operator-facing interfaces while also strengthening QA/QC practices, release readiness, and software lifecycle ownership. This is a great opportunity to build a growing capability and have visible impact on how Intralox automation solutions are experienced across platforms and regions. What you’ll do:
- Develop and harmonize HMI standards, screen layouts, navigation structures, dashboards, and reusable templates to create a more intuitive and consistent user experience across equipment projects
- Improve the usability and clarity of operator-facing interfaces to help customers and operators interact with equipment more effectively, with less training and less ambiguity
- Test and validate automation software releases to ensure customer-facing updates improve functionality without negatively affecting existing systems
- Build scalable QA/QC methods, documentation, and release-readiness processes to support reliable, repeatable, and high-quality software delivery
- Support lifecycle ownership of software updates, feature releases, supplier changes, and obsolescence topics to help maintain sustainable and customer-relevant automation platforms over time
- Work closely with automation engineers and cross-functional stakeholders in Europe and the US to solve issues structurally and support greater global platform consistency
- Support code development in different software environments to contribute to stronger engineering practices and more robust automation deliverables across the organization
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Automation/Controls Engineering, or a related field
- 0-2 years of experience, or relevant exposure through internships, co-ops, coursework, or hands-on projects; candidates with more experience are also welcome
- Familiarity with software QA/QC, structured testing, validation, release readiness, or DevOps-style ways of working
- A foundational understanding of industrial automation systems and how HMIs are used to operate equipment
- Exposure to HMI/SCADA tools, operator interface design, or UX/UI principles
- Strong communication skills, learning agility, and the ability to work effectively in a self-managed, cross-functional team
- A valid passport and willingness to travel occasionally
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, release workflows, version control, Git, or change management
- Familiarity with industrial HMI/SCADA and visualization tools such as Optix, CODESYS Visualization/WebVisu, Ignition, Siemens WinCC, WinCC Unified, TIA Portal HMI, Rockwell FactoryTalk View, or Node-RED
- Understanding of high-performance HMI principles, IEC 61131-3 programming concepts, industrial communication protocols, or data tools such as OPC UA, Modbus, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, MQTT, datalogging, historians, trending, reporting, or SQL-based tools
