GIS ANALYST I (4041)

The purpose of this position is to assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of a Geographic Information System (GIS) and related data. This position prepares maps, charts, and drawings from aerial maps and other survey data; identifies, scales and orients geodetic points, elevations, and other topographic features and cartographic detail. Maintains complex GIS layers using remote sensing, computer-aided design and other cartography sources. Digitizes hardcopy maps, plans, and overlays from existing or new information, documents, drawing, plans, charts, or other data sources. Employee assist higher level GIS Analysts in the production of large digitizing projects. Provides information to the public, contractors, and consultants relative to engineering business and technical matters. Updates existing GIS system graphic, mapping, and database information. This position utilizes automated design software and various drafting instruments in the updating and modification of utility plans, i.e., CAD, plotters, calculators, scales, lettering sets. Performs related duties as required.

I. Possession of an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Geographic Information Science (GIS) or a related field with at least fifteen (15) credit hours focusing on GIS., II. Successful completion of at least six (6) credit hours of coursework focusing on GIS at an accredited college or university; plus, sufficient paid work experience involving use of ESRI-based GIS software. OR III. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent certificate; plus, significant paid work experience involving use of ESRI-based GIS software.

Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate.
