Job description
We are seeking a technically skilled and highly motivated Digital Front End (DFE) & Network Support Technician to join our field service team.
This position supports the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Digital Front End systems, production servers, network infrastructure, and workflow software used in high-volume digital printing environments.
This is not a traditional help desk or office IT position. The successful candidate will work directly with industrial digital printing equipment, production servers, network switches, RIP software, print workflows, and customer IT departments., The DFE & Network Support Technician will be responsible for:
- Installing and configuring Digital Front End systems for production digital printing equipment.
- Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows and Linux-based servers and workstations.
- Configuring network interfaces, static IP addresses, subnet masks, gateways, VLANs, and routing requirements.
- Troubleshooting communication between digital presses, DFE servers, RIP systems, workflow servers, and customer networks.
- Configuring and troubleshooting managed Ethernet switches.
- Diagnosing TCP/IP communication issues using tools such as ping, traceroute, ARP tables, interface statistics, and packet-level troubleshooting tools.
- Installing and configuring RIP and print workflow software.
- Managing print queues, hot folders, network shares, and automated production workflows.
- Troubleshooting failed print jobs, communication errors, corrupted files, software crashes, and workflow interruptions.
- Performing server recovery, system imaging, cloning, backup, and restoration procedures.
- Creating and restoring bootable recovery media and system images.
- Performing firmware, BIOS, UEFI, driver, and software updates.
- Troubleshooting RAID arrays, storage controllers, hard drives, SSDs, memory, network adapters, and server hardware.
- Configuring server boot order and troubleshooting UEFI and BIOS-related issues.
- Working with remote management platforms such as iLO or similar server management systems.
- Installing replacement servers, network cards, storage devices, and other computer hardware.
- Performing operating system upgrades and migrations.
- Reviewing system logs and identifying hardware, operating system, network, and application-level faults.
- Working with customer IT departments to coordinate IP addresses, firewall requirements, network access, and equipment integration.
- Providing remote and onsite technical support.
- Documenting service activity, configurations, IP information, troubleshooting steps, and final resolutions.
- Supporting installation teams during new equipment installations, relocations, upgrades, and production startups.
- Assisting with troubleshooting problems that cross between the press, DFE, network, server, and workflow software.
- Providing technical training and operational support to customers when required.
Travel Requirements
This is a high-travel field position.
Candidates must be willing and able to:
- Travel extensively throughout the United States.
- Travel internationally when required.
- Fly frequently.
- Rent vehicles and drive to customer locations.
- Work occasional nights and weekends when installation or production schedules require it.
- Remain onsite until critical installation or service milestones are completed.
- Adapt to changing schedules and short-notice travel requirements.
- Work independently while traveling.
Travel may occur for extended periods depending on project schedules.
Requirements
The position requires extensive travel throughout the United States and occasional international travel. Candidates must be comfortable working independently, troubleshooting complex systems under pressure, and working directly with customers, engineers, technicians, and equipment manufacturers.
Education Requirements
A minimum one-year technical degree or certificate in Computer Networking, Information Technology, Network Administration, Computer Systems, or an equivalent technical field is required.
Equivalent military technical training or directly related professional experience may be considered.
