Embedded Software Design Engineer

Your daily work revolves around creating firmware, device drivers, and Board Support Packages for VxWorks-based systems. You will tackle customer issues, migrate software to new OS versions, and help set the standard for best practices. This isn’t just coding-it’s engineering that directly impacts product performance and mission success., * You will produce firmware, device drivers, and Board Support Packages (BSPs) for VxWorks 7 and later versions of VxWorks 6.9

• You will deliver maintenance releases by performing customer support and resolving technical issues
• You will migrate existing software to support new versions of the VxWorks operating system
• You will develop key expertise and drive best practices within the VxWorks development team
• You will communicate project status, milestones, and risks to key stakeholders in a timely manner
• You will create internal engineering documentation and draft customer-facing documentation for the Tech Publications group
• You will participate in and contribute to the continuous improvement of software development processes

The ideal candidate brings a Bachelor’s in Computer Science, at least three years of embedded C experience, and a strong command of VxWorks and VxBus. You thrive in an environment that demands precise problem-solving and clear communication. You are comfortable collaborating with stakeholders and enjoy mentoring others in sound engineering practices., * You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline

• You have at least three years of professional experience in embedded software development using C through the entire life cycle
• You possess a solid background in Real-Time Operating Systems, with specific expertise in VxWorks
• You have a good understanding of VxBus and board-level software
• You are an excellent problem solver with creative, solution-building skills
• You have strong verbal and written communication abilities
• You have current authorization to work in the United States; this client cannot sponsor work visas, * You bring a background in the aerospace or defense industry, understanding its demanding standards
• You have experience working in an Agile software development environment
• You are comfortable with continuous integration and deployment practices
• You understand modern computer architectures and how they affect embedded performance
• You take pride in delivering high-quality software that meets exacting engineering requirements
• You have a track record of supporting demanding customers and resolving complex issues
• You are eager to mentor teammates and drive the adoption of development best practices
