Job description

Outpost Technologies is seeking a Systems Engineer to lead the architecture, integration, and technical implementation of a Mobile Command and Control (C2) platform supporting Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) testing across CONUS. This role serves as the technical lead for the platform, overseeing systems architecture, enterprise infrastructure, laboratory integration, and system verification through field deployment.

The ideal candidate is a technically versatile engineer with experience spanning systems engineering, enterprise infrastructure, networking, virtualization, and systems administration.

The posted compensation range represents the expected pay range for this position at the time of posting. Actual compensation may be higher or lower than the stated range based on factors such as relevant experience, education, certifications, specialized expertise, geographic considerations, market conditions, and alignment with internal compensation structures and government contracting requirements.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical architecture, integration strategy, and implementation of the Mobile C2 platform.

  • Translate customer operational requirements into integrated system solutions.

  • Lead technical interchange meetings, customer data calls, and engineering coordination activities.

  • Develop and maintain system architecture documentation, network diagrams, rack elevations, interface documentation, and integration plans.

  • Design, deploy, and administer Windows and Linux server environments supporting laboratory and operational systems.

  • Configure and maintain enterprise infrastructure services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, file services, backup solutions, and user access management.

  • Deploy and manage virtualization platforms, virtual machines, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), and enterprise NAS/SAN storage solutions.

  • Implement system hardening, security baselines, patch management, and infrastructure lifecycle maintenance.

  • Monitor system health, performance, capacity, and infrastructure availability.

  • Establish and maintain a laboratory environment that replicates the Mobile C2 platform for integration and testing.

  • Develop integration procedures, verification methodologies, and technical test plans.

  • Lead end-to-end integration, verification, and validation activities across networking, compute, storage, communications, and supporting infrastructure.

  • Perform rack power budget analysis and evaluate generator capacity, shore power requirements, and environmental impacts on system performance.

  • Lead trailer infrastructure planning, pre-wire activities, and hardware installation planning.

  • Oversee installation, integration, and configuration of equipment within the Mobile C2 platform.

  • Direct final system checkout, customer acceptance testing, and operational verification.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and as-built configuration documentation.

  • Provide technical leadership and advanced troubleshooting support during initial field deployments and operational events.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline (equivalent experience may be substituted).

  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, systems administration, systems integration, enterprise infrastructure, or a related technical field.

  • Experience leading the integration of complex hardware, software, networking, and communications systems.

  • Strong experience administering Windows Server and Linux environments.

  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.

  • Experience administering enterprise infrastructure services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and enterprise storage solutions.

  • Strong understanding of enterprise networking concepts and client/server architectures.

  • Experience creating technical documentation, system diagrams, and integration documentation.

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills across servers, networking, virtualization, storage, and supporting infrastructure.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, hands-on engineering environment.

  • Approximately 15% travel.

  • On-site work only (Huntsville, AL).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting DoD, government, or mission-critical operational environments.

  • Experience with Mobile Command and Control (C2), tactical, or expeditionary systems.

  • Experience with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), NAS/SAN storage, and enterprise computing environments.

  • Experience with Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar scripting languages.

  • Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON, and systems integration methodologies.

  • Experience implementing DISA STIGs, RMF, cybersecurity requirements, or other secure computing practices.

  • Experience supporting audio, video, communications, or command-and-control systems.

  • Experience with enterprise monitoring and infrastructure management platforms.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
