Job description

Ashton North is partnering with an established global technology company to identify a Senior Backend Engineer who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges. This organization develops advanced hardware and software solutions used by professionals worldwide, creating products where performance, reliability, and scalability are essential.

This is not a typical web application development role.

You’ll help build the backend platforms, APIs, middleware, and cloud services that enable connected devices to communicate seamlessly across a sophisticated ecosystem. If you enjoy designing scalable systems, architecting robust software, and working on technology that interacts with the physical world, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

What You’ll Do

  • Build scalable REST and GraphQL APIs that support enterprise applications and connected devices.
  • Develop middleware and platform services that enable secure, reliable communication across distributed systems.
  • Design and implement cloud-native solutions within AWS environments.
  • Contribute to the architecture of highly available, scalable distributed systems.
  • Collaborate with frontend, hardware, embedded, and product engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Improve software quality through automated testing, code reviews, CI/CD, and engineering best practices.
  • Participate in architectural planning, technical discussions, and long-term platform strategy.
  • Optimize application performance, reliability, and maintainability across multiple products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Computer Engineering
  • Five or more years of professional backend software engineering experience in NPD, this position isn’t for SaaS developers
  • Strong back-end expertise developing applications for products with TypeScript and Node.js.
  • Experience building scalable backend services, APIs, and microservices.
  • Solid understanding of asynchronous programming, event-driven architectures, and reactive systems.
  • Experience developing applications within AWS cloud environments.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, object-oriented design, testing methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based version control.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Stable work history demonstrating consistent career progression and meaningful contributions within previous organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS Serverless technologies including Lambda, API Gateway, and related services.
  • Experience designing and supporting distributed systems.
  • NestJS framework experience.
  • Angular version 13 or newer.
  • Experience working with IoT platforms, connected devices, networking, industrial automation, embedded systems, or hardware-integrated software.
  • C++ development experience.
