Job description

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Devops Engineer to work for our client within the Banking sector. This is initially a 12 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in London., The member will work closely with globally dispersed developers, DevOps, release management, Quartz DevOps, Technology Infrastructure and business-aligned risk teams to support scalable risk reporting and generation services. The environment is primarily Quartz, the bank’s next generation trading and risk platform, with development taking place largely in Python and some C++ for high-performance components. Responsibilities:

  • Providing DevOps expertise and leadership for effective management of application infrastructure and large risk plants
  • Supporting end-of-day and on-demand risk generation, with a focus on stability, resiliency and operational control
  • Planning and executing failovers in line with application and infrastructure requirements
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders , Quartz DevOps and Technology Infrastructure on weekday and weekend activities
  • Improving tooling, monitoring and automation to support production stability and reduce manual operational effort
  • Acting as a regional point of contact as the SFRC / Risk Horizontal capability expands globally

Requirements

  • Experience in Python or equivalent programming languages, with ability to build and support automation, tooling and operational improvements
  • Practical experience in software development, testing, deployment and production support using agile development methodologies
  • Understanding of large-scale application plants, including capacity management, resiliency, failover and operational stability
  • Ability to compartmentalise complex problems and propose practical, controlled solutions for production environments
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical and troubleshooting skills across application, infrastructure and batch processing issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to work effectively across technology, infrastructure and business stakeholders
  • Experience working as part of a high-performance team on high-priority deliverables
  • Self-motivated, proactive and comfortable taking ownership of production stability and operational outcomes

Desirable:

  • Experience in the Financial Services industry, ideally with risk, trading, market risk or regulatory reporting platforms
  • Knowledge of Quartz or similar large-scale trading and risk platforms
  • Experience with continuous integration, deployment pipelines, monitoring, alerting and production automation
  • Grasp of system design and architecture, especially for resilient, scalable and operationally controlled platforms
  • Front office or production support background with motivation to grow further into DevOps, Python engineering and platform ownership
