Job description
The Design and Applications Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting battery systems and related technologies. This role works closely with R&D, manufacturing, and customers to ensure battery products meet performance, safety, and application requirements across industries such as automotive, medical, energy storage, and consumer electronics., * Design battery packs, modules, and systems (mechanical, electrical, and thermal aspects)
- Develop battery schematics, layouts, and models using 3D CAD and simulation tools
- Selection of cell chemistry (e.g., primary or secondary), BMS (Battery Management Systems), and safety components
- Conduct performance testing (capacity, thermal behavior, lifecycle)
- Support prototyping and transition to production
- Work directly with customers to understand application requirements
- Customize battery solutions for specific use cases
- Provide technical guidance on integration, charging, and safety
- Troubleshoot field issues and support product deployment
- Develop and execute test plans for battery performance, safety, and reliability
- Analyze data from testing (cycle life, degradation, thermal response)
- Ensure compliance with standards (UL, IEC, ISO, etc.)
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to improve designs
- Support product launches and continuous improvement efforts
- Interface with suppliers and evaluate new technologies
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 2-5+ years in battery design, energy storage, or related engineering role
- Experience with lithium-ion or other battery chemistries preferred
- Knowledge of battery systems, BMS, and power electronics
- Proficiency in 3D CAD
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to customers and cross-functional teams
- Familiarity with standards and regulations for batteries preferred
- Experience with testing equipment and lab environments preferred
Work Environment
- Combination of office, lab testing, and customer-facing work
- May involve travel to customer sites or manufacturing facilities
