Job description

  • Build trusted working relationships with finance and accounting subject-matter experts and other cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Conduct structured interviews, working sessions, and side-by-side process reviews to understand how key accounting and reporting activities are performed and why specific judgments or adjustments are made.
  • Document end-to-end finance processes, including revenue accounting, journal-entry activity, close procedures, reconciliations, reporting, adjustments, control points, dependencies, and exception handling.
  • Reconstruct process logic and supporting rationale where documentation is incomplete, inconsistent, or primarily dependent on institutional knowledge.
  • Evaluate current practices against sound accounting, process, and control standards and develop practical recommendations to retain, formalize, simplify, automate, redesign, or discontinue activities.
  • Produce durable process narratives, workflow documentation, decision logic, control documentation, and supporting reference materials that can be used by finance operations and transformation teams.
  • Partner with finance, controllership, technology, and project stakeholders to ensure documented requirements and accounting logic are appropriately reflected in broader transformation, testing, reconciliation, and future-state design efforts.
  • Identify and communicate process-improvement opportunities in a constructive, collaborative manner that supports stakeholder adoption and minimizes operational disruption.
  • Operate with discretion, patience, and strong judgment when navigating sensitive processes, long-standing practices, and change-management considerations.

Requirements

This is a hands-on transformation engagement suited for a senior finance and accounting professional with strong process orientation, sound accounting judgment, and the interpersonal presence to work effectively with experienced subject-matter experts. The consultant will translate complex and sometimes informally maintained practices into clear, auditable, and sustainable documentation that can support ongoing operations and future-state transformation efforts., * 15+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including meaningful exposure to revenue recognition, journal-entry preparation and review, reconciliations, and month-end and quarter-end close processes.

  • Demonstrated finance transformation, process-improvement, and/or change-management experience, ideally involving enterprise systems change, process redesign, operating-model evolution, or knowledge-transfer initiatives.
  • Strong functional accounting fluency and the ability to independently understand, evaluate, and challenge complex process flows, accounting treatments, and journal-entry rationale.
  • Executive presence and consulting maturity, with the ability to operate as a credible peer and thought partner to experienced finance professionals.
  • Exceptional emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to build trust, navigate resistance, and challenge established practices respectfully.
  • Excellent written documentation skills, with the ability to convert unstructured or tacit knowledge into clear, organized, auditable, and user-friendly process documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across finance, accounting, controllership, technology, internal controls, and transformation teams.
  • Availability to work on-site multiple days per week within commuting distance of the client location., * Experience supporting complex, contract-driven, high-volume, or multi-entity revenue environments.
  • Experience working across both established or highly customized finance environments and modern enterprise platforms during a phased transformation.
  • Prior consulting or advisory experience involving finance transformation, process documentation, knowledge capture, internal controls, or systems implementation.
  • Experience developing documentation that supports testing, reconciliation, controls, training, transition, or future-state process design.
  • Broad familiarity with enterprise finance and accounting systems; deep expertise in any specific software platform is not required.

  • Engagement Type: Project-based consulting engagement
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid/on-site multiple days per week; specific client location will be shared during the interview process
  • Start: Near-term availability preferred
  • Reporting Relationship: Finance, controllership, and transformation leadership., * Have you traced material, labor, overhead, WIP, finished goods, and COGS through production activity by item, work order, or production order?
  • Do you have SAP S/4 HANA implementation/transformation/migration experience?
  • Have you led or supported a finance transformation, ERP migration, legacy system decommissioning, process documentation, or knowledge-transfer project?
  • Please briefly describe your experience converting undocumented or manually owned accounting processes into clear process narratives, workflows, control points, or audit-ready documentation.
  • Are you comfortable working onsite multiple days per week?
  • How many years of progressive finance, accounting, controllership, transformation, or consulting experience do you have?
