Job description

BoxCar Mortgage is looking for a hands-on IT Systems Administrator to help maintain and modernize our technology environment. The core of this role is our Microsoft stack - Azure/Entra ID, Intune, Microsoft 365 licensing, and identity/permissions - but we’re a small tech team supporting a mortgage business, so this is a wear-multiple-hats role.

Alongside the systems work, you’ll pitch in on everyday IT support and the mortgage-specific systems our business runs on. If you like owning a Microsoft environment and being the person who keeps the whole shop running, you’ll fit well here.

Organizational Expectations

All employees are expected to adhere to organizational policies and procedures, maintain a positive and respectful attitude, communicate regularly with their supervisor, demonstrate flexible and efficient time management, consistently report to work on time, meet department productivity standards, and maintain confidentiality regarding BoxCar Mortgage, its business, and the affairs of its customers.

Key Responsibilities

Core Focus - Microsoft Environment

  • Administer Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) and Microsoft Azure - identity, conditional access, and core cloud services.
  • Manage device deployment, configuration, compliance, and security through Microsoft Intune (endpoint management).
  • Own Microsoft 365 licensing - assignment, right-sizing, cost control, and renewals.
  • Design and maintain groups, roles, and permissions with least-privilege access across the tenant.
  • Build reporting and dashboards in Power BI and automate workflows with Power Automate.

Also Part of the Job - Small-Team Reality

  • Provide day-to-day end-user IT support (account and password resets, troubleshooting, onboarding/offboarding).
  • Support and troubleshoot the mortgage systems our teams rely on, including the Loan Origination System, Point of Sale, and integrations.
  • Provision and manage user access to agency/investor systems such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

This is a generalist role on a lean team - the Microsoft work is the center of gravity, but no one here is “too senior” to reset a password or dig into a loan-system issue.

Requirements

Required

  • Recent, hands-on experience administering Microsoft Azure / Entra ID, Microsoft Intune, and Microsoft 365 in a production environment.
  • Practical knowledge of Microsoft licensing models and cost management.
  • Strong grasp of identity, groups, roles, and permissions (least-privilege / RBAC).
  • Experience building with Power BI and Power Automate (Power Platform).
  • Comfort providing direct end-user support, with clear documentation habits.

Note: We prioritize recent, current-generation experience with these tools over years-in-seat.

Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Preferred

  • Experience in the mortgage or financial-services industry (a plus, not required - we’ll teach the loan-system side to the right person).
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g., MS-102, AZ-104, MD-102, or equivalent).
  • Scripting experience (PowerShell).
