Job description

This is a full-time, exempt position under the general supervision of the Director. This position is responsible for the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of the library’s computer systems. This position also oversees troubleshooting hardware, operating system, and application-related problems, as well as planning for and responding to service outages and other issues. This is an in-person job and requires travel to all seven locations of the Ocmulgee Regional Library System, headquartered in Eastman, Georgia., Competencies & Functions listed are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed.   • Daily attendance and punctuality are required to ensure the goals of the library can be met.
  • Installs, configures, and maintains all types of hardware, software, audiovisual, and network equipment for the staff and public. Installs, replaces, or configures components; diagnoses problems; and performs preventive maintenance on computer equipment, networks, and related components found in both staff and public environments.
  • Manages, under appropriate supervision, library network resources (e.g. file servers, network operating systems, e-mail assignment, user accounts, etc.).
  • Maintains an inventory of computer equipment, recommends a replacement schedule, and keeps statistics on use of library technology.
  • Manages e-rate filings and maintains records as required by program rules and regulations.
  • Provides on-the-spot and planned instruction, as needed, relating to user maintenance and operation of various computer hardware and software to provide staff with the tools necessary for excellent customer service.
  • Provide technical support to end users over email, phone, and in person, helping end users diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Prepares written technical support documentation. Maintains tools/equipment, service logs, and performs other associated duties.
  • Develops, implements, and communicates policies and practices to determine the needs for public access computers, wireless access, and programs.
  • Plans, develops, manages, and analyzes information technologies necessary for the purpose of effectively meeting internal and external end-user needs.
  • Develops and administers disaster recovery plans related to information systems and identifies critical data to ensure continued operations.
  • Provides sound strategic and technical recommendations on the most efficient and effective ways to manage the Library’s technology programs and services.
  • Understands and adheres to the mission, values, and vision of the library organization and maintains current knowledge of trends and developments through continuing education.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or at least three (3) years of relevant experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Driver’s License
  • Excellent attention to detail, * Experience working in a Library or School System
  • Experience working with the Evergreen (PINES) circulation system
  • Certification as a Librarian or the ability to obtain certification within six months of employment by the Georgia State Board for the Certification of Librarians
  • Active Library card account in good standing ($0 balance), * Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 40 lbs
  • Frequent bending, twisting, and squatting
  • Ability to communicate orally in a clear manner
  • Ability to distinguish sounds at various frequencies and volumes
  • Ability to distinguish people or objects at varied distances under a variety of light conditions
  • Frequent sitting, walking and standing
  • Ability to safely operate library vehicle and travel between locations
  • Must be capable of using hand(s) for repetitive single grasping, fine manipulations, pushing and pulling and operating controls
  • Ability to withstand temperature and noise changes in the work environment
