Job description
RES is expanding its Advisory Services offering with its consultancy team within our Asset Management Department, which manages a growing fleet of renewable energy assets. We are looking for an experienced renewables consultant to join this team.
The Renewable Energy Consultant will deliver client-facing advisory work across our portfolio, including due diligence, owner’s engineering, and lifetime extension and repowering assessments for onshore wind. Skill and experience in evaluating end-of-life strategies for operational wind farms - whether to extend, repower or decommission - will be central to the role.
The position reports to the Advisory Services Team Lead (UK&I)
Accountabilities
- Understand and interpret client’s needs, clearly communicating client’s goals to internal and external stakeholders
- Be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of Advisory Services and one-off projects on behalf of clients including due diligence, owners engineering and general technical mission
- Support our growth and cost reduction targets
- Undertake technical, project management, commercial and customer-facing activities
- Support regular communication with target clients and provide feedback to the business units to refine the product offering
Reporting
Prepare & deliver presentations and reports for Asset Management team and/or clients
Internal Engagement
- Ensuring that appropriate contracts are agreed with clients and time and cost is accounted for appropriately within the business
- Ensure the quality of work meets clients’ expectations
- Work with all internal stakeholders, and any sub-contractors
- Ensure project deliverables stay on time, on target, and on budget
- Supporting the development of proposals to secure new work
- Responsibility for the financial performance of any projects managed
- Mentor and support less experienced team members
- Identify and communicate relevant technological developments or regulatory changes which may impact the business or provide new opportunities
External Engagement
- Work with clients to identify their requirements and key points of contact
- Attending client meetings and undertaking site visits within the UK and globally
Requirements
- Understanding of technical aspects of renewable energy infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of renewable energy systems, preferably onshore wind and/or battery energy storage systems
- Established network of contacts within the renewables industry
- Understanding of commercial aspects of renewable energy infrastructure projects (including project finance)
- Understanding of lifetime extension, repowering and end-of-life decision-making for onshore wind assets

Experience
- Owners engineering, due diligence, technical advisory and/or consultancy activities in the Onshore Wind field and hybrid wind systems
- Lifetime extension assessments and/or repowering feasibility studies for onshore wind (e.g. remaining useful life analysis, DNVGL-ST-0262 or equivalent)
- Similar consultancy or in-field experience with battery storage systems would be considered advantageous
- Modelling experience in Windfarmer, WindPRO, Python, PVSyst, Chronos considered advantageous
- Experience in the renewables industry in a technical consulting capacity
- Managing budgets and project costs
- Client facing experience in a consultancy role
- Contract specification review and preparation
- Competent user of Microsoft Office365 products, * Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline - e.g. mechanical, electrical, civil/structural or aeronautical engineering - from an accredited institution, + Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or actively working towards chartership with a relevant institution (IMechE, IET, ICE or equivalent), or an equivalent international designation (e.g. PE, Eur Ing)
- Postgraduate qualification in wind energy or renewable energy engineering
- Demonstrable application of engineering analysis in an operational wind context (e.g. loads and fatigue assessment, structural integrity, root cause analysis of component failures
