Job description

The mission of Refugee Support Services of the Carolinas, Inc. (RSS) is to facilitate programs and intercultural relationships that promote individual autonomy, cultivate social capital, and enrich our community., Summary: The Help Desk Specialist provides direct, culturally responsive support to Refugee Support Services participants, with a primary focus on the Afghan community while serving all communities as needed. This role assists individuals and families with everyday needs such as technology support, form completion, appointments, benefits navigation, and referrals, helping reduce barriers and build independence. The Help Desk Specialist serves as a trusted point of contact, collaborates with internal programs and community partners, and documents services accurately.

Requirements

This role combines light case management and community outreach with hands-on assistance navigating technology, forms, appointments, referrals, and benefits, helping reduce barriers and build confidence toward greater stability and independence. Familiarity with the Afghan community and Dari or Pashto language skills are required., To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following:

  • Must speak Dari and Pashto. Arabic is a plus!
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Support for and desire to become an advocate for the mission of RSS
  • Genuine interest in the value of supporting and engaging community members
  • Experience in translation/interpretation and appropriate proficiency in relevant language(s)
  • Strong bilingual (English, Pashto, and Dari) written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to represent RSS responsibly and accurately
  • Work to maximize the use of organizational resources
  • Proficiency and confidence with Google Workspace, digital communication tools, Zoom, and other technology platforms.
  • Experience with NeonCRM or other CRM platforms preferred but not required
  • Ability to welcome and treat others inclusively
  • Ability to observe and demonstrate safety and sensitivity procedures
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education:

  • One year non-profit experience, experience with working in multilingual/multicultural environments, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Experience working with immigrants (particularly forced migrants) preferred. Candidates who are immigrants or have experience as forced migrants are highly encouraged to apply. Skills or fluency in second languages preferred as well as direct experience living, working, or studying abroad.
