Job description

As a back-end developer, you know that a good site or system needs the right combination of clean code, APIs, analytics, and infrastructure to develop a user-focused solution. We’re looking for an experienced back-end developer with the software engineering skills it takes to identify potential risks, contribute to solution development, and create efficient and effective systems for our clients.

As a back-end developer at Booz Allen, you’ll use the latest architectural approaches and open-source frameworks and tools to deliver solutions. Using your software engineering experience, you’ll work with the development team to create custom tools, systems, and sites with consistent performance and scalability.

In this position, our team’s mission is to rapidly develop, test, and mature digital, data, and AI-enabled capabilities that improve situational awareness and accelerate coordinated decision-making across the Department. Within this effort, we enhance warfighter access to data by delivering software products and data-integration services that close critical Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control (CJADC2) capability gaps. The team focuses on improving cross-domain data movement, strengthening mission applications within Maven Smart Systems, and establishing reliable data transport across systems and classification levels. Together, these efforts enable timely, secure, and mission-relevant data flow to support the warfighters. This position is located in Washington D.C.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience building production-grade applications with Python or Java
  • 3+ years of experience deploying, configuring, and maintaining enterprise software applications in secure, air-gapped, or disconnected environments
  • 3+ years of experience managing software deployments through CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab CI, Jenkins, or ArgoCD
  • 2+ years of experience with containerization technologies, such as Docker, Containerd, Podman, or Kaniko
  • 2+ years of experience with deploying and managing applications in Kubernetes using tools or CLIs, such as Kubectl and Helm
  • Experience using Git for version control in a collaborative software development environment
  • Knowledge of networking, system security, and enclave boundary controls
  • TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science field

Nice If You Have:

  • 2+ years of experience building or maintaining production-grade RESTful APIs or software interfaces
  • 2+ years of experience with administering Linux servers or Virtual Machines, including OS package maintenance, networking, and disk management
  • 2+ years of experience implementing event-driven or streaming architectures leveraging Kafka, RedPanda, Amazon SNS, or Apache Flink
  • 2+ years of experience with Cloud Service providers, including AWS or Azure, and their associated services and tools
  • 2+ years of experience with deploying and administering on-prem and cloud Kubernetes clusters, such as RKE2, K3S, EKS, AKS, or OpenShift
  • Experience evaluating architectural tradeoffs and designing robust, scalable service-based software applications
  • Experience acquiring client requirements and designing and recommending solutions based upon these requirements
  • Experience with Java, C#, C++, JavaScript, React, or NodeJS
  • Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and secure deployment practices
