Job description

  • Infrastructure Design & Automation: Architect and maintain our core cloud infrastructure, focusing on building a robust foundation that supports self-service capabilities for engineering teams to manage their own resources within a governed framework.
  • Innovate & AI Integration: Constantly evaluate new technologies to improve our stack. In the AI era, you will help manage the infrastructure supporting our AI initiatives and look for ways to integrate AI into our internal tooling.
  • GitOps & Deployment: Utilize technologies like ArgoCD to manage and deploy.
  • Infrastructure Integrity & Custom Tooling: We are uncompromising about our “100% Infrastructure as Code” standard-if it’s not in Git, it doesn’t exist. You will take ownership of this vision by developing bespoke, in-house automation and monitoring tools to eliminate manual changes, ensuring the AWS console remains strictly read-only and our cloud state is always perfectly synced with our code.
  • Kubernetes Excellence: Optimize and scale our EKS clusters, ensuring they are robust enough to host both our backend/frontend services and our internal tooling.
  • Governance & Landing Zone: Manage our multi-account AWS strategy using Control Tower and automated Account Factories, ensuring isolation, security, and environment consistency (Dev/Stg/Prod/DR).
  • Efficiency Mindset: Act as a key member of the team driving cloud cost awareness and accountability across the organization, helping to optimize resources and foster a data-driven FinOps culture.
  • Observability & Monitoring: Implement and maintain comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions (Mimir, Grafana ect’) to ensure the health, performance, and reliability of our platform and services. Drive a culture of data-driven incident response and proactive system optimization.

Requirements

  • Technical Core: Minimum of 3 years of experience in DevOps or Platform Engineering, with proven experience in Infrastructure as Code (IaC). Knowledge of Terraform is an advantage.
  • Cloud Proficiency: Hands-on experience with AWS (which is preferred) or any other major cloud provider like Azure and GCP. A solid understanding of multi-account strategies and core services is key.
  • Containerization: Basic knowledge of Kubernetes. Experience with EKS is an advantage.
  • Infrastructure as Code: At least 1 year of experience using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), with proficiency in Terraform. You believe that if it’s not in Git, it doesn’t exist.
  • Mindset: You are a natural problem-solver who thinks creatively and is a fast learner. You are comfortable working in a “read-only console” environment where automation is the default.
  • Communication: Ability to explain complex infrastructure concepts to stakeholders and mentor fellow engineers

Nice To Have:

  • AI Infrastructure: Experience implementing AI into DevOps tools or managing infrastructure for AI/ML workloads.
  • Multi-Cloud: Familiarity with Azure or GCP (where we maintain smaller footprints).
  • FinOps: Experience or interest in cloud cost optimization and accountability.

About the company

ERGO NEXT’s mission is to help entrepreneurs thrive. We’re doing that by building the only technology-led, full-stack provider of small business insurance in the industry, taking on the entire value chain and transforming the customer experience. Simply put, wherever you find small businesses, you’ll find ERGO NEXT. Since 2016, we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of small business customers across the United States get fast, customized and affordable coverage. We’re backed by industry leaders in insurance and tech, and we still have room to grow - that’s where you come in.

At NEXT, a cloud-native company, our platform is the heartbeat of our operation. We are looking for a Infrastructure & DevOps Engineer who is passionate about building scalable, resilient, and developer-friendly infrastructure. You won’t just be “managing servers”; you will be architecting the internal platform that enables our entire engineering organization to ship code faster and more reliably.

You will be a part of a small, ultra-talented, and supportive Infrastructure & DevOps Engineer. This is a unique opportunity to learn from seasoned experts and contribute directly to high-impact projects from day one.In this role, you will be a key driver of our infrastructure evolution. You will design and implement robust systems primarily using AWS, leveraging EKS to run and deploy our services, and treating 100% of our environment as code using Terraform. We are looking for someone who doesn’t just follow industry trends but thinks “out of the box” to solve complex architectural challenges, ensuring our infrastructure serves as a seamless “product” for our internal developers. As our team also acts as the centralized FinOps authority, your ability to understand the cost implications of architectural decisions is a significant plus, helping us maintain a high-performance yet cost-efficient cloud environment.
