Job description

  • Own the administration, monitoring, maintenance, and performance of enterprise SQL Server environments across Production, Development, and QA.
  • Administer Azure SQL Database, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Storage (ADLS Gen2), Azure Data Factory, and Azure Key Vault.
  • Manage and support Microsoft Fabric including Workspaces, Capacities, Lakehouse, Warehouse, OneLake, Deployment Pipelines, Semantic Models, and Direct Lake.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, and troubleshooting deadlocks, blocking, and resource contention.
  • Implement database security, RBAC, encryption (TDE, Always Encrypted), auditing, and compliance standards.
  • Manage backup, recovery, disaster recovery, capacity planning, and high availability solutions.
  • Lead database migration initiatives from on-premises SQL Server and Azure Synapse to Azure and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Collaborate with Infrastructure, Cloud, Data Engineering, and Analytics teams to support enterprise data platforms.
  • Automate DBA operations using T-SQL, PowerShell, and Azure DevOps CI/CD practices.
  • Act as the escalation point for production incidents, perform root cause analysis, maintain operational documentation, and participate in a 24×7 on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of IT experience with 5+ years of hands-on enterprise SQL Server Database Administration.
  • Strong experience with:
  • SQL Server Administration
  • Azure SQL Database
  • Azure Synapse Analytics
  • Azure Data Factory
  • Azure Storage (ADLS Gen2)
  • Azure Key Vault
  • Microsoft Fabric Administration
  • Expertise in:
  • SQL Server performance tuning and optimization
  • Query optimization, execution plans, indexing, deadlocks, and blocking analysis
  • Backup & Recovery, High Availability, Disaster Recovery, and Capacity Planning
  • Database Security, RBAC, TDE, Always Encrypted, Row-Level Security, and Auditing
  • Strong proficiency in T-SQL and PowerShell (Python is a plus).
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD for database deployments.
  • Hands-on experience planning and executing SQL Server migrations to Azure and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Good understanding of Power BI integration with SQL Server, Azure Synapse, and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric migration projects.
  • Experience in Healthcare, including HIPAA compliance, PHI data handling, and healthcare data standards.
  • Knowledge of Dataflows Gen2, Data Pipelines, OneLake governance, and Direct Lake optimization.
