Software Engineering Data Processing

Job description

Vortex Fielding and Engineering is seeking a highly focused, independent OSP Back Office Technician to handle high-volume data processing for upcoming fiber installations. This is a production-heavy, remote role for someone who thrives when they can buckle down, put their headphones on, and crank through engineering data without hand-holding.

We have a steady, heavy volume of work (around 500 poles a week). We need a contractor who is highly detail-oriented, tech-literate, and possesses the grit to maintain speed and accuracy across massive datasets without burning out.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Photo Calibration: Calibrating photo measurements using target dots from Katapult field sticks.
  • Classification & Annotation: Accurately identifying line ownership (power, comms, CATV) and tracing lines sequentially down the route.
  • Make-Ready Engineering (MRE): Proposing new fiber attachments on the pole. You will occasionally need to space and move existing attachments around virtually to ensure compliance and make the new layout work., To respect everyone’s time and ensure a good workflow match, our process is straightforward:
  • Initial Review: Share your background and your preferred per-pole or per-foot contract rates.
  • Work Review / Portfolio: During a brief virtual interview, we will ask you to share your screen and walk us through examples of your past Katapult annotation or MRE work so we can evaluate your workflow, speed, and accuracy.

Requirements

  • Software Expertise: Mastery of Katapult Pro is highly preferred. You should already understand the logic of the platform.
  • Hardware Requirements: You must provide your own capable computer setup (dual monitors are highly recommended for this type of workflow) and a high-speed, reliable internet connection. We will provide the Katapult account/license.
  • Core Skills: A strong foundational understanding of OSP engineering principles, pole anatomy, and clearance requirements. You don’t need 20 years of experience, but you must know what you are looking at. We can bridge small knowledge gaps, but we cannot provide baseline training from scratch.
  • The Right Mindset: High stamina for repetitive, precision-based data tasks. If you get easily overwhelmed by large backlogs, this is not the right fit. We need someone who catches on quickly, stays focused, and finishes what they start.

Benefits & conditions

$25 - $50 an hour - Permanent, Part-time, Full-time, Pulled from the full job description

  • Flexible schedule
