Job description

The Engineering Manager leads the Developer Experience (DevEx) initiative, improving developer productivity, engineering quality, and delivery effectiveness through shared platforms, tooling, automation, and engineering best practices. This role serves as a hands-on technical leader who partners closely with Engineering, DevOps, Delivery, and platform teams to reduce developer friction, improve quality of life for engineers, and enable the efficient delivery of high-quality software across the organization About the Role:

  • Leads team(s) throughout software development lifecycle.
  • Recruits, mentors, coaches, retains, inspires engineering individual contributors and tech leads on a day-to-day basis.
  • Sets and tracks goals and objectives with each assigned team member.
  • Participates and assists with expense approval and budget planning.
  • Creatively solves problems and clear roadblocks that often cross technical and human factor domains.
  • Conducts and attends meetings with key stakeholders to present facts that lead to quality decisions.
  • Communicates effectively and provides clarity in a 360 fashion.
  • Collaborates with architects, tech leads, engineering managers, engineers, and quality engineering to build and deliver excellence and improve how we deliver, maintain and monitor quality software.

Requirements

  • 12+ years in industry with progressive growth in responsibility; 5+ years technical leadership and managing teams of 5 or more engineers
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to translate technical topics for diverse internal audiences and drive alignment.
  • Proven people management: hiring, coaching, performance management, and growing engineers and tech leads; strong emotional intelligence and organizational rigor.
  • Developer Experience / internal platform product mindset: implement vision, roadmap, and success metrics for capabilities that serve internal teams (best practices, common libraries, templates, and paved paths).
  • Internal customer partnership and operating model: intake and prioritization, clear engagement expectations, stakeholder management, and cross-team influence across Product Engineering.
  • Developer productivity measurement and continuous improvement: define baselines and outcomes (e.g., DORA metrics, CI cycle time, onboarding/time-to-first-commit, adoption, and developer satisfaction) and use them to guide investment.
  • Platform adoption and change management: migrations, deprecations, versioning/backward compatibility, release communications, office hours, and enablement to scale usage of common solutions.
  • Governance and stewardship for shared libraries and platform capabilities: API/design standards, contribution model, ownership, support expectations/SLAs, and secure-by-default patterns.
  • Documentation and enablement excellence: high-quality reference docs, runnable examples, golden paths, templates, and reference architectures that make the easiest path the best path.
  • Must have Amazon AWS experience (EC2, EKS, ECS, S3, SQS, ELB, Lambda) and experience with service/microservices-oriented architecture in a containerized environment.
  • Strong experience implementing Infrastructure as Code and integrating into CI/CD pipelines, with priority for Terraform and GitHub/GitLab experience.
  • Strong skills in at least one programming language: GoLang, C#, or TypeScript; ability to stay hands-on for design reviews, prototypes, mentoring, and raising the engineering bar.
  • Strong knowledge of REST APIs and web protocols and technologies (HTTPS, CORS, Postman, JSON, XML, GraphQL).
  • Experience implementing event-driven architectures using Kafka, Kinesis, or SNS for scalable and resilient distributed systems.
  • Expertise in observability practices (metrics, structured logging, distributed tracing) using Dynatrace and OpenTelemetry; define standards and provide reusable instrumentation patterns.
  • Experience designing and operating distributed systems with emphasis on scalability, reliability, and cost optimization; define and operate SLOs for developer-facing platform services (e.g., CI/CD, artifact management, developer environments).
  • Strong understanding of service mesh and modern container orchestration patterns.
  • Proven ability to lead teams to predictable delivery using Agile frameworks while reducing toil through automation and self-service.
  • Strong capability in managing technical debt strategically, balancing near-term delivery with long-term maintainability of shared platforms and libraries.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster effective use of AI and automation across engineering teams to improve developer productivity, decision-making, and delivery efficiency
