Job description

Our client is seeking an experienced Programmer IV with strong ADABAS/NATURAL mainframe development experience to support and enhance enterprise applications. This is a long-term contract opportunity focused on the analysis, design, development, maintenance, testing, and support of critical mainframe systems.

The selected consultant will work closely with technical teams and business stakeholders to troubleshoot issues, implement enhancements, and ensure applications continue to meet business and technical requirements. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.

This position may be performed remotely by connecting to a client-managed workstation. An onsite work option is also available as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, develop, enhance, and maintain ADABAS/NATURAL mainframe applications.
  • Write new code while modifying and enhancing existing applications.
  • Troubleshoot application issues, identify root causes, and resolve production defects.
  • Perform system testing, debugging, and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Ensure applications continue to perform according to business and technical requirements.
  • Collaborate with technical teams and business stakeholders to gather requirements and resolve technical issues.
  • Evaluate enhancement requests and recommend system improvements, development tools, and software upgrades.
  • Participate in design and code reviews to ensure quality standards and technical requirements are met.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, user documentation, and status reports.
  • Provide production support, including occasional after-hours troubleshooting or corrective actions when necessary.
  • Support the ongoing maintenance, stability, and continuous improvement of enterprise applications.

Requirements

  • Strong experience developing applications using NATURAL .
  • Hands-on experience with ADABAS database development.
  • Experience with COBOL .
  • Working knowledge of: *

  • TSO
  • JCL
  • FTP
  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting enterprise mainframe applications.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with technical and business teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Experience preparing technical and end-user documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, and Word).

Preferred Qualifications

  • SQL Server database experience.
  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise applications.
  • Experience evaluating system enhancements and participating in application modernization initiatives., The ideal candidate is a self-motivated mainframe developer with deep ADABAS/NATURAL expertise who enjoys solving complex technical challenges in a collaborative environment. This individual will be comfortable working directly with technical teams and business stakeholders to develop, enhance, troubleshoot, and support enterprise applications while contributing to the ongoing reliability, stability, and performance of critical business systems.
