Job description
The Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) I - Oracle GoldenGate Focus supports the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) by administering, securing, and optimizing enterprise Oracle database environments with an emphasis on Oracle GoldenGate replication technologies. The DBA will support mission-critical healthcare and business applications by ensuring high availability, data integrity, disaster recovery, and efficient data replication across on-premises and cloud environments.
The successful candidate will work closely with database architects, cloud engineers, application developers, and infrastructure teams to implement secure, highly available Oracle database solutions that comply with VA cybersecurity and operational standards., * Install, configure, administer, and maintain Oracle Database environments.
- Configure, implement, and maintain Oracle GoldenGate replication for high availability, disaster recovery, and data synchronization.
- Monitor Oracle GoldenGate Extract, Pump, and Replicat processes and resolve replication issues.
- Perform database installations, upgrades, migrations, and patch management.
- Monitor database health, performance, and storage utilization.
- Optimize SQL queries, indexing strategies, and database performance.
- Perform backup and recovery operations using Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN).
- Implement database security controls including user administration, encryption, auditing, and access management.
- Support cloud-based Oracle database deployments within Azure and AWS environments where applicable.
- Develop automation scripts to streamline database administration tasks.
- Troubleshoot database outages, performance bottlenecks, and replication failures.
- Support disaster recovery testing and business continuity planning.
- Produce technical documentation
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
- Support Authority to Operate (ATO) activities, security audits, and vulnerability remediation.
- Ensure database environment maintain compliance
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in:
- Computer Science
- Information Systems
- Information Technology
- Engineering
or
Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of professional database administration experience, including:
- 3+ years administering Oracle Database Enterprise Edition
- 2+ years of hands-on Oracle GoldenGate administration and troubleshooting
- Experience with Oracle RMAN backup and recovery
- Experience supporting production enterprise database environments
- Experience supporting federal government or other highly regulated environments
- Experience with Linux and Windows server administration
- Experience using Git or other version control systems for database scripts and automation
Desired Technical Skills

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs and the VA Enterprise Cloud (VAEC)
- Experience implementing Oracle High Availability (HA) architectures
- Experience integrating Oracle GoldenGate with cloud-based environments
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and containerized Oracle deployments
- Experience implementing database encryption, auditing, and privileged access management
Benefits & conditions
$85 - $95 an hour - Full-time, Candidates must meet all of the following requirements before being considered:
