Job description

The IT Infrastructure Specialist is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, availability, and performance of the organization’s infrastructure environment, including Windows Server platforms, enterprise networking, virtualization, storage, backup solutions, and Microsoft Azure cloud services.

This six-month contract engagement is designed to provide immediate hands-on infrastructure support while transferring knowledge to an internal IT team member who will assume these responsibilities full-time. The successful candidate must be highly experienced, capable of contributing immediately with minimal ramp-up time, and committed to mentoring and developing internal staff through structured knowledge transfer and best practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Infrastructure Administration

  • Administer, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize enterprise Windows Server environments.
  • Manage physical and virtual server infrastructure.
  • Configure, monitor, and support Microsoft Azure resources and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Administer Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Microsoft 365, and identity solutions.
  • Manage virtualization platforms including VMware and Hyper-V.
  • Monitor and optimize infrastructure performance, availability, and capacity.

Network Administration

  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot network devices including:
  • Switches
  • Routers
  • Firewalls
  • VPN solutions
  • Wireless infrastructure
  • Support network connectivity, performance, and security initiatives.

Security and Business Continuity

  • Implement and maintain security controls across server, network, and cloud environments.
  • Manage backup systems and recovery processes to ensure data integrity and recoverability.
  • Assist with disaster recovery planning, testing, and documentation.
  • Support compliance with corporate security and IT governance requirements.

Knowledge Transfer and Documentation

  • Provide daily mentoring, coaching, and hands-on training to an internal Infrastructure Specialist.
  • Develop technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and knowledge transfer materials.
  • Demonstrate infrastructure administration best practices and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of configurations, changes, and operational procedures.

Operational Support

  • Track and manage IT hardware and software assets.
  • Collaborate with IT team members on infrastructure projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide helpdesk support during peak periods or staffing shortages when needed.
  • Prioritize service requests and incidents based on business impact.
  • Assist with computer room infrastructure, cabling, and related documentation.
  • Participate in after-hours maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting activities as required.
  • Assist with procurement requests and infrastructure planning.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of Windows Server administration experience (Required)
  • Expert-level knowledge of:
  • Windows Server 2016/2019/2022
  • Active Directory
  • DNS
  • DHCP
  • Group Policy
  • File and Print Services
  • Windows Server security and patch management

Cloud Technologies (High Priority)

  • 3+ years of Microsoft Azure administration experience (Required)
  • Experience with:
  • Azure Virtual Machines
  • Azure Virtual Networks
  • Azure Storage
  • Azure Backup
  • Azure Site Recovery
  • Azure Identity and Access Management
  • Hybrid cloud environments
  • Azure monitoring and security services

Virtualization

  • VMware vSphere
  • Hyper-V
  • Virtual infrastructure management and optimization

Networking

  • Enterprise switching and routing
  • Firewalls and VPN technologies
  • Wireless networking
  • Network troubleshooting and performance monitoring

Experience

Required

  • Minimum 8 years of enterprise Windows Server administration experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of Microsoft Azure administration experience.
  • Experience supporting enterprise infrastructure including servers, networking, storage, and virtualization.
  • Hands-on experience with VMware and/or Hyper-V.
  • Experience with Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and identity management.
  • Experience with backup, disaster recovery, and IT security best practices.
  • Proven success mentoring or training IT professionals.

Preferred

  • Azure Administrator Associate certification.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
  • Windows Server certifications.
  • Experience in manufacturing or global enterprise environments.

Pay: Up to $50.00 per hour
