Job description
To support the installation of hardware attached to LKSD’s network, such as switches, VM hosts, battery backup, VTC equipment, etc., 1. Work with the Network Manager in installing and assisting in the installation of network hardware (switches, access points, cabling).
- Installing and assisting in the installation of network printers and phones.
- Verify power (user UPS, circuit breakers, etc.).
- Assist in the troubleshooting of network hardware, printers, and phones.
- Assist the Bethel School Technician as requested.
- Work with the Data Center Manager in the configuration and installation of VMs at remote sites.
- Work with the Network Manager in installing and assisting in the installation of security camera hardware (switches, cameras, cabling).
- Work with the Distance Delivery Manager in assessing issues and replacing equipment at remote sites.
- Basic troubleshooting of Apple-based hardware and software.
- Removing browser highjacks, VPNs, malware, and viruses.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- At least two years of network experience required.
- Sixty credit hours from a college or university with emphasis in computer networks/application/programming/courses preferred.
- Experience working with electronic mail, word processing, and spreadsheet software required.
- Basic network troubleshooting skills (switch ports, patch panels, etc.).
- Familiar with wired and wireless network protocols (V-LANS, subnets, etc.).
- Basic understanding of Apple-based hardware and software.
- Knowledge of removing browser highjacks, VPNs, malware, and viruses.
- Verify power (user UPS, circuit breakers, etc.).
- Willing and able to receive training on network infrastructure required.
- Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.
- Ability to travel to village schools by small airplane.
- Weekly travel required; expect occasional overnights in villages.
- Ability to carry out successfully the duties listed below.
