Job description

Linux Engineering owns the platform that most of Verition’s compute runs on. This is deep, hands-on infrastructure work: the Linux fleet across our private data centers and cloud regions, tuned for the performance and latency demands of a quantitative trading firm, and automated so that thousands of machines behave as one coherent, code-defined platform. As a Senior Platform Engineer, you’ll own significant pieces of that surface directly - from kernel-level tuning on our most latency-sensitive systems to the automation that provisions and maintains the fleet - working closely with the Tech Lead for Linux Platform Engineering to execute one coherent OS-platform strategy, alongside the Windows Engineering team that owns its counterpart.

  • Engineer, automate, and operate the firm’s Linux fleet across private data centers and cloud regions, holding it to the reliability, performance, and security standards demanded by a quantitative trading environment.
  • Perform kernel-level and system-level performance tuning on latency-sensitive systems, including core pinning and shielding, kernel bypass, network stack tuning, and interrupt steering.
  • Build and maintain deployment, configuration, patching, and monitoring automation in Python and modern configuration management, treating the Linux estate as code rather than as hand-managed servers.
  • Own significant pieces of the Linux platform surface hands-on across both Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu, from provisioning through in-life management.
  • Define and enforce Linux security baselines and hardening standards, partnering with Security Engineering on patching cadence, privileged access, and the firm’s broader identity and short-lived-credential strategy.
  • Contribute to the OS-platform technical strategy set by the Tech Lead, Linux Platform Engineering, bringing deep Linux expertise so that decisions span both platforms coherently.
  • Partner with Data Center & Fleet Infrastructure on provisioning and asset management, and with Developer Tools & Infrastructure on build and CI integration, so the Linux platform is well-integrated with the rest of the stack.
  • Provide production support for the Linux surface, including participation in an on-call rotation, and drive continuous improvement of its reliability and observability.
  • Mentor engineers across the team on Linux internals, performance, and automation, raising the bar for how the firm builds and operates Linux infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in systems or platform engineering, with a focus on Linux infrastructure.
  • Advanced experience with the inner workings of the Linux kernel, including core pinning and shielding, kernel bypass, network stack tuning, and interrupt steering.
  • Strong working knowledge of both Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu.
  • Strong experience automating deployment, configuration, patching, and monitoring with Python, including modern configuration-management approaches (e.g., Ansible, or equivalent).
  • Experience defining and applying Linux security baselines and hardening standards (e.g., CIS Benchmarks, STIGs).
  • Experience with distributed systems and cloud platforms.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
  • Experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages (e.g., C++, Java, Rust).
  • Experience with ā€œmetal as a serviceā€ type build factories and Kubernetes-based bare-metal provisioning systems.
  • Experience tuning Linux for low-latency or trading-adjacent workloads.
  • Strong working knowledge of agentic developer productivity tooling and customization such as spec-driven development, MCP servers, and Claude Code sub-agents, skills, and workflows.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
  • Experience partnering with quantitative developers and researchers in a finance setting.
  • Contributions to relevant open-source projects.
