Job description

A global investment bank is expanding its Systems Engineering team and is hiring Linux Platform Engineers (Red Hat) to maintain and enhance its large-scale, globally deployed Linux platform. You will automate configuration, patching and deployment processes, develop reliable Python tooling, troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, and contribute to the design and implementation of new platform solutions.

What you’ll do:

  • Maintain and enhance a global Red Hat Linux platform
  • Develop and support critical Linux infrastructure components
  • Use configuration-as-code and automation to manage large-scale Linux environments
  • Build robust, maintainable automation tools using Python
  • Automate Linux patch testing, deployment and remediation
  • Configure, tune and troubleshoot Linux operating systems and platform-management tools
  • Diagnose complex issues across hardware, operating systems, networks and storage
  • Work with global engineering, operations and business teams to prioritise platform improvements
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of new infrastructure solutions

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of Linux, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Strong understanding of UNIX system calls and low-level operating-system and network protocols
  • Experience managing large-scale Linux environments using SaltStack, Puppet, Chef or a similar configuration-management tool
  • Strong Python development skills, with the ability to write robust and maintainable code
  • Experience with automated Linux patching, testing and deployment processes
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, operating systems, networking and storage
  • Knowledge of Git, Jenkins, automated testing and CI/CD practices
  • Experience designing, implementing or supporting large-scale production IaaS platforms
  • Knowledge of virtualisation and private-cloud technologies
  • Experience building and managing containerised applications securely
  • As a reference point, contributors to open source projects would be an ideal fit
  • Knowledge of other programming languages, such as Perl, C, or C++ are strong advantages
  • The right to work in the UK and the ability to commute to our London office three days per week
