Job description

eNGINE builds Technical Teams. We are a Solutions and Placement firm shaped by decades of interaction with Technical professionals. Our inspiration is continuous learning and engagement with the markets we serve, the talent we represent, and the teams we build. Our Consulting Workforce is encouraged to enjoy career fulfillment in the form of challenging projects, schedule flexibility, and paid training/certifications. Successful outcomes start and finish with eNGINE.

eNGINE is hiring a Mainframe/COBOL Developer who sees legacy systems not as something to maintain, but something to transform. You’ll take ownership of modernizing core mainframe infrastructure, automate high-risk manual workflows, and help bridge the gap between mainframe and distributed platforms. Deep mainframe expertise paired with a genuine drive to learn automation and distributed systems will go a long way here - and if you already have that experience, even better.

What You’ll Do:

  • Modernize legacy mainframe systems (COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2) and enable integration with distributed platforms (Oracle, APIs)
  • Lead efforts to automate high-risk, manual business workflows - including client account onboarding/offboarding and account merges
  • Collaborate with India-based teams and navigate challenging stakeholder conversations with clarity and assertiveness
  • Take full ownership of deliverables: identify gaps, raise flags early, and proactively drive solutions forward
  • Immerse yourself in the business side of cash sweeps - deep understanding of the domain is key to success in this role

Requirements

  • Mainframe Core: COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2, z/OS
  • Distributed Exposure: Oracle DB, SQL, data sync/migration strategies
  • Tools & Utilities: CA-7, Control-M, REXX, FILEAID, AbendAid, SPUFI, QMF, Changeman/Endeavor
  • Automation Focus: Demonstrated ability to streamline batch, reporting, and conversion jobs
  • Process Insight: Experience with conversions, client onboarding, policy administration, or reporting

Nice to Have:

  • Familiarity with API development, MQ Series, or integration patterns
  • Knowledge of ad hoc reporting, SQL performance tuning, and batch job optimization

  • No C2C will be considered
